GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Parks Foremen and Parks and Recreation Director, the Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker assists with the upkeep and appearance of Borough parks, grounds, facilities, athletic fields, playgrounds, and aquatic facilities during the spring and summer seasons. This position performs routine manual labor, landscaping, cleaning, and event support tasks; operates basic hand and power tools; works independently and as part of a team; interacts with the public in a professional manner; and supports seasonal programming and special events. This is an entry-level, seasonal position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform routine parks and grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, raking, mulching, watering, weeding, planting, and general landscape care.
Assist with the maintenance and preparation of athletic fields, playgrounds, courts, pavilions, and other park amenities.
Remove trash, recycling, graffiti, fallen debris, and litter; change trash liners; restock dog waste stations.
Support special events and programs by assisting with setup and breakdown of equipment such as tables, chairs, tents, cones, signage, and lighting as needed.
Assist with basic facility cleaning and upkeep, including restrooms, concession areas, and storage spaces.
Support swimming pool operations as assigned, including assisting with seasonal pool opening/closing, cleaning, and general grounds maintenance around aquatic facilities (no chemical handling unless trained/certified).
Operate basic hand tools and light power equipment (e.g., push mowers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers, hand tools) in a safe and responsible manner.
Assist with simple repairs and maintenance tasks such as painting, minor carpentry, and fence repairs under supervision.
Observe work areas for safety hazards, follow all safety procedures, and report unsafe conditions to supervisors.
Interact with park patrons and respond to basic questions or concerns in a courteous and professional manner.
Perform related duties as assigned to meet seasonal operational needs.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
No prior experience required. Previous experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, construction, or outdoor labor is preferred but not required. Must be able to follow instructions and work safely in an outdoor environment.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid PA Driver’s License
Willingness to obtain basic safety or job-related training as provided
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
Basic understanding of outdoor maintenance tasks and equipment use
Awareness of general safety practices in outdoor work environments
Skills:
Use of basic hand tools and light power equipment
Ability to work efficiently as part of a team
Abilities:
Ability to learn new tasks and follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods
Ability to communicate respectfully with supervisors, coworkers, and the public
Ability to maintain a positive attitude and take pride in work quality
Flexibility in scheduling and daily assignments due to weather, events, and operational needs
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to heat, humidity, rain, and other weather conditions. Work may involve operating tools and equipment that require adherence to safety procedures. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support special events and programs.
