The Town of Hanover Parks and Recreation Department is seeking motivated and dependable Seasonal Grounds Crew Workers to help maintain the parks, trails, athletic fields, cemeteries, and public spaces that residents and visitors enjoy every day. This position assists in maintaining town trees, landscaping, parks, trails, grounds, cemeteries, building facilities, and athletic fields. Seasonal staff play an important role in supporting the daily upkeep of Town facilities and assisting with Parks and Recreation programs and special events.
Weekend, after-hours, and holiday work may be required as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inspect playgrounds and equipment to identify unsafe conditions and assist with repairs
Assist in laying out and preparing athletic fields for play, including installing goals and painting lines
Collect and remove trash, litter, and debris from parks and public spaces
Assist with planting and removal of Town trees
Support maintenance of landscaping, parks, trails, and open spaces
Assist with cemetery maintenance, including preparing burial sites and placing grave markers
Perform turf maintenance on athletic fields and public grounds
Assist in installing outdoor decorations and seasonal banners
Support setup of voting equipment when needed
Maintain tools and equipment and perform pre- and post-use inspections
Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment for Parks and Recreation programs and special events
Perform custodial and building maintenance duties at the RWB Community Center as needed
Perform related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic knowledge of landscaping, turf maintenance, and grounds care practices
Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and equipment use
Skill in operating maintenance tools and equipment
Ability to follow instructions from supervisors and senior staff
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to complete assigned tasks efficiently and safely
Ability to maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and the public
Good judgment and problem-solving ability
Strong oral communication skills
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work involves standing, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, and climbing
Frequent lifting of light and heavy objects- up to 80lbs
Use of tools and equipment requiring dexterity
Work performed outdoors and indoors, often in varying weather conditions
Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and moving machinery
Use of protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, and masks required
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations equivalent to a high school education
One to two years of related experience or completion of an apprenticeship or internship preferred
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license
Hours of Work:
This is a seasonal position lasting 16 weeks from Mid May- Mid August; 40 Hour/week, non-benefited. Hours are typically Monday-Friday 6am-2:30pm, some weekend days may be needed on occasion.
