Ampersand Biomedicines’ Pilsen Team (Ampersand Pilsen CZ s.r.o), a Flagship Pioneering Company, discovers and optimizes human therapeutic antibodies with one of the industry’s most versatile technology platforms. Tailored to specific needs and desired Target Product Profiles, the experienced team leverages both cutting-edge (e.g., microfluidics, rabbit mass humanization) and state-of-the-art (e.g., phage display libraries) technologies to provide high quality leads against a range of diverse targets.

THE ROLE

Ampersand Pilsen CZ s.r.o. (Ampersand Biomedicines, Inc.) is looking for a highly motivated, goal-driven and collaborative scientist to join our dynamic Microfluidics team. This is a unique opportunity to help drive the development of a rapidly growing early-stage science and technology company within a well-resourced environment. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing our research and development efforts. The candidate will drive technology development and application in the Microfluidic department and will enjoy working in a pioneering and fast-paced start-up environment. This is a full-time on-site, laboratory-based position in Plzeň, Czech Republic.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop our unique microfluidic platform for various applications within antibody discovery projects.

• Active contribution to the technology platform development.

• Design and execute experiments using an advanced microfluidic platform to support research objectives.

• Operate droplet generation and sorting instruments with precision to ensure accurate data collection.

• Process primary cells and diverse cell lines for experimental workflows.

• Produce and perform quality control assessments of polymer chips used in droplet preparation and sorting.

• Collaborate effectively with the team members to achieve project milestones.

• Conduct and document experiments following detailed protocols and standard operating procedures; actively contribute to laboratory maintenance and equipment care to ensure a well-functioning workspace.

• Contribute to building a positive, team-oriented culture.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• MSc or Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field.

• Hands on experience with microfluidic devices.

• Strong background in general engineering, device design and optimization.

• Experience in designing and building custom optical devices, previous work with lasers and/or with high-speed imaging, good knowledge of FPGA, piezo actuators, high-voltage microelectrodes, good knowledge of fluid dynamics and short-range electromagnetic fields is an asset.

• Proficiency in CAD software for (microfluidic) device design.

• Experience with programming environments for instrument operation (e.g., LabView).

• Hands-on experience with microfabrication techniques such as soft lithography, photolithography, and microfluidic chip bonding.

• Experience with microfluidic device integration with other technologies such as sensors, actuators, and electronics.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex experimental setups, with attention to detail and good organizational skills.

• Sense of responsibility regarding experimental work, documentation, the team and the mission of Ampersand.

• Adaptivity to language requirements. Our team is international, written documents like experimental protocols and records are in English language.
