Quick Summary

We're seeking a scientist to design, build, and validate our human in vitro models, establishing and optimizing in vitro human models such as patient-derived samples, tumor organoids, 3D cell models, organs-on-chip to debug and refine our molecular programs in physiologically relevant contexts.

Job Description

We’re seeking a scientist to design, build, and validate our “human in a dish” platform that ensures translational relevance of our preclinical development pipeline. This includes establishing and optimizing in vitro human models – such as patient-derived samples, tumor organoids, 3D cell models, organs-on-chip – to “debug” and refine our molecular programs in physiologically relevant contexts. You’ll develop immune-competent model systems to mimic the tumor microenvironment and immune interactions within healthy tissues. To support this work, you’ll build functional multi-omics workflows to profile these disease models using bulk and single-cell genomics technologies. You’ll characterize synthetic genetic components and their combinations in the context of these models to anticipate their function in patients. This role requires long-term, strategic thinking to optimize the scale-up of cell culture operations with the goal of creating a pipeline of well-validated, characterized, and qualified human cell models for high-throughput functional genomics and drug discovery studies.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Develop advanced in vitro human models of healthy and diseased primary cells, tissues, and organs to serve as a translationally relevant testing and validation platform
• Scale up culture of in vitro models to support high-throughput testing workflows
• Design assays for model characterization and to establish translational relevance
• Collaborate with our Synthetic Biology and Computational Biology teams to develop workflows for comprehensive high-throughput testing of multiple synthetic genetic components, their combinations, and therapeutic candidates
• Implement multi-modal bulk and single-cell assays as an integral part of testing workflows.
• Optimize and establish standard operating procedures for patient-derived tissue processing and dissociation
• Plan and manage complex projects including interfacing with clinical partners for sample acquisition and sequencing service providers
• Liaise with CROs, plan and oversee technology transfer and study execution at contract organizations, as needed
• Maintain detailed, well-organized documentation of experiments and data

Required Skills & Qualifications :
• PhD in molecular biology, genomics, bioengineering, immunology or a related field
• Excellent knowledge of ex vivo/in vitro models, ideally in oncology (tumor organoids, tumor explants), as well as healthy/primary human and animal cells (primary cells, stem cell models, spheroids, organoids, organotypic culture, organs-on-chip)
• Proven track record of building complex model systems including co-culture systems, 3D cellular models, or organoids
• Experience with primary tissue handling and processing
• High motivation with a strong work ethic and dedication to generating impact
• Ability to go from idea to data to conclusions in an independent manner
• Hands-on experience with tissue engineering, biomaterials, 3D bioprinting, bioreactors, or microfluidics
• Hands-on experience performing single cell and bulk genomics experiments including sample preparation, library preparation, and sequencing
