Job Summary
The Childcare Worker assists the Site Supervisor or designates in the daily operations of the Centre and provides quality care to the children. The worker may plan and organize activities for children as well as provide support and direct care to children, encouraging their intellectual, physical and emotional growth.
Qualifications
Child Care licensing Regulation approved CCSS Casual Worker training that includes at least 20 hours of training in child development, guidance, health & safety or nutrition.
The following three ECE courses, and/or equivalent, a combination of related training and experience may be considered:
Child development
Child guidance
Child health, safety & nutrition
Required
Successful completion of:
Criminal record check
Physician's report
Immunization record
Professional references
Educational transcripts
Clean driver’s abstract.
Valid First Aid Certificate.
Early Intervention and Prevention Training.
Signed Confidentiality Agreement.
Adherence to OneSky policies and procedures, program operations manual and commitment to Code of Ethics.
Adherence to the Child Care Licensing Regulation requirements of the B.C. Community Care and Assisted Living Act.
Must be 19 years of age or older.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of childcare issues.
Excellent communications skills and ability work effectively with children, parents and staff.
Good organization, time and general management skills.
Knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques.
Understanding of the Child Care Licensing Regulation requirements of the B.C. Community Care and Assisted Living Act.
Ability to work effectively within a team and be able to provide support and direction as needed.
Responsibilities
Plan, carry out and evaluate developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children. Develops daily schedules which include indoor/outdoor, active/quiet and individual and group activities.
Supervise children.
Conduct assessment and develop individualized and group curriculum based on the child’s special needs. Initiate referrals or additional services for children with other professionals.
Provide reports on progress, behaviour of children, and other outstanding issues. Ensure that accurate reports are kept by all staff.
Provide short- and long-term planning and evaluation of programs and recommend changes to the Program Coordinator or designate.
Attend to the children’s physical needs, which may include diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping.
Ensure a healthy and safe environment. Maintain health records and administer first aid and medication as required. Observe and remove potential hazards. Report all incidents of child abuse to the Program Coordinator or Designate and follow OneSky procedures and government legislation.
Attend to the safety and well-being of children. Be present and available for all children and always adhere to the childcare licensing regulation ratio requirements.
Maintain open and positive communication with parents. Request input and participation of parents into the development of children’s programs. Conference with parents about unusual or problematic issues.
Promote the optimal, social, physical, emotional, cognitive and cultural growth and development of each child.
Implement developmentally appropriate programs that meet the observed needs of the children.
Nurture children to promote positive development.
Promote cooperation with families and other service providers.
Promote the development of high quality, effective, comprehensive and accessible childcare services.
Commit to maintaining inclusive quality service environments, which provide participants with respect, and value their choices and abilities.
Help create a welcoming program centre that is safe, organized, well lit, attractive and stimulating for children, parents and visitors.
Work effectively to help build solutions and solve problems.
Maintain confidentiality.
Support and maintain all applicable CQI initiatives, accreditation standards, licensing regulations, OneSky policies and procedures, and program procedures.
Attend scheduled staff meetings.
Participate in OneSky meetings and events as required.
Support OneSky’s mission, vision and values.
Perform any related duties, which may be assigned and/or required to maintain the operations and integrity of the program.
