Job overview
The Machine Shop Scheduler/Production Planner is responsible for planning and coordinating the machine shop’s daily operations, including BOM transfers, prototype parts, and other assigned jobs. This role ensures that due dates, goals, and deadlines are established and maintained based on the shop’s overall capacity—both machines and personnel. Key responsibilities may include scheduling production activities to align with capacity and timelines, ordering raw materials, tooling, and packaging required for jobs from start to finish, reviewing part sequences to support time studies and costing analysis, and analyzing historical and current data to ensure accurate BOM scheduling for production departments.
This role will collaborate with all levels of the machine shop and other business areas to ensure products are built on schedule and internal efficiency targets are met. The successful candidate will split time between the production floor and office, balancing hands-on oversight with data-driven planning. This role will be partner to the Director of Manufacturing and assist with tasks and initiatives as needed.

This position will require onsite attendance at our Machine Shop. Typical hours will be Monday-Thursday from 6am-4:30pm.
Here are the specifics:
Work with the director of manufacturing to plan and schedule production parts, sister companies’ parts, prototype parts and any other needed parts or manpower needs for the company utilizing our manufacturing scheduling/planning systems.
Set and oversee the day-to-day working schedule for the different areas of the machine shop for all shifts.
Update BOMs completion dates, when changes are needed, review BOMs and update as needed.
Communicate with the different area’s leaders on efficient production schedules, capacity planning and lead possible meetings on expected goals, and past efficiency goals.
Review schedules and future production requirements to plan workloads.
Monitors the areas manufacturing workloads for efficiency on similar parts, and maintaining spec parts inventory levels.
Helps preemptively prevent production part delays and prototypes part delays.
Oversee overtime workloads for the different areas, with approval from superiors.
Ensure deadlines of the department are met.
Plan accordingly for preventative maintenance downtime.
Foster a safe working environment by maintaining and implementing safety standards. Follow established Speedway Motors and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
Order raw materials as needed within the Machine Shop, ensuring that the Machine Shop has the materials needed to complete the work.
Consistently meets customers’ expectations for delivery, quality, and value.

Work Environment:
Ability to occasionally lift and carry <50 lbs. and rarely push/pull up to 100 lbs.
Occasional walking and standing.
Rare bending, twisting, kneeling and squatting.
Frequent reaching.
Rare work above shoulder level.
Frequent pinching, grasping, fine manipulation with fingers and must be able to use power tools.
Heated and air-conditioned indoor work.
Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, steam, fumes-vapor and chemicals.
What you’ll need to succeed in this position:
Associates degree in manufacturing or production scheduling, plus 5 years of experience in scheduling of people and/or projects in a manufacturing facility. Experience may substitute for education on for a year for year basis.
Must be able to read technical manuals, blueprints and various maintenance and repair documents.
Must have excellent critical thinking skills, have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Resource planning and allocation skills, both short and long term.
Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability, excellent presentation and communication skills, and capability for conceptual and long-term planning.
Proficient user of Windows and MS Office, MRP systems, and a have a basic understanding of a variety of other machining, welding, fabrication and some assembly equipment.
Familiarity with computer and Microsoft Office products including Excel, Outlook and Word.
Is knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in area(s) of machine shop operations and familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
Must support and follow established safety policies and procedures.
