Who are we looking for:
The Scaffold Foreperson in our Calgary, Alberta branch, will be responsible for managing and coordinating construction projects, which includes supervising up to 10 employees (scaffolders). A typical project involves the building and/or erection of metal and steel scaffold structures using various tools, equipment, and building materials while working in collaboration with other crafts on the jobsite.
All Scaffold Erectors are required to join the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, our union/labour partners.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead a team of scaffold erectors on site to complete specific projects and ensure compliance with all safe work procedures and company regulations
Erect, modify, and dismantle temporary work support platforms or structures that hold workers, tools, equipment, and construction components, and that are in the vicinity of the general public
Ensure applicable Contractor’s Safety Procedures, OH&S, and Provincial Safety requirements are adhered to while demonstrating a strong commitment to safety by adhering to safe work practices and the Northstar Scaffold Safety Philosophy
Serve as customer facing representation on site and represent the Company in a professional manner
Supervise, train and develop scaffold apprentices within your crew
Mentor all skill level apprentices with planning and executing work on the job sites; as well as being available to answer questions about the work being performed
Manage and monitor members attendance and work.
Peacefully resolve any emerging problems and issues
Supervise, allocate and delegate responsibilities at jobsites across crews of ~2-10 scaffolders.
Complete material take-offs, safety documents, daily job logs and other customer required compliance documents as required
Interprets plans and specifications, follow blueprints, inspect work that's being done, implement and manage construction tasks ensuring quality work and correct practices and in accordance with priorities and goals
Ensure that work is being performed safely in accordance with the project schedule.
Monitor expenditures and keep budget in check
Prepare reports and present progress
Verify design requirements from drawings and written instructions, select appropriate materials, and set ground levels
Perform daily scaffolding inspections to ensure structures have not been compromised
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Highschool diploma or working towards one
5+ years experience in Construction Management
Certified Journeyman or equivalent experience
Construction Management experience an asset
Construction Safety Training Systems an asset
Reliable transportation with G-license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be familiar and knowledgeable of the Industrial and Commercial Construction Sector in Thunder Bay and surrounding area
Mathematical, mechanical, and logical reasoning abilities
Knowledge of scaffolding equipment and gear
Strong leadership skills
Excellent knowledge of construction operations and equipment
Familiarity with blueprints
Ability to multi-task
A keen awareness of safety protocol
Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures
Physical dexterity and capable of working at heights
Good physical condition and stamina
Capable of carrying objects weighing up to 50lbs and occasionally up to 100lbs
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to follow safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment
Collaborate effectively with crew members and other trades while working on job site
