Sanitation Supervisor

Reports to: Quality & Food Safety Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities: Sanitation
JOB SUMMARY: The Sanitation Supervisor provides strong leadership and direction to the facility in food safety, product quality, sanitary practice, facility condition, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), safety and continuous improvement in Lean Manufacturing principles. The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing and controlling the activities of the Sanitation department and other elements of the facility Sanitation program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide a strong presence on the production floor (40-50% of time is expected to occur on the production floor)
Training, supervision, and development of direct reports
Creation, Training, and Verification on SSOPs and the MSS system for Sanitation Technicians
Ensure the sanitation team members have the necessary skills and training to work safely and efficiently
Teach problem solving, critical thinking, and “Teaming with Production” to the Sanitation Techs to drive continuous improvement
Work to develop sanitation team members who are highly engaged, self-directed and who demonstrate an “ownership” mindset
Conducts and creates sanitation department safety and cleaning training. Arrange for training through sanitation vendors as necessary
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures in area of people management
Manage sanitation supply and chemical inventories
Manage sanitation technician schedules
Partner with Quality, Warehousing, Production, Maintenance Teams, the Safety Coordinator and Service Vendors
Recognized as a Safety Leader within the plant; models safe work practices, help to develop, implement and maintain safety processes within the plant that focus on employee well-being and reducing accident frequency and overall injury rates
Partner with Production Supervisors, Training Coordinator and Continuous Improvement Leader and BNF partners, in the development and verification of Production line SSOP’s
Be the main sanitation contact for day-to-day facility activities
Ensure facility-wide compliance with all cGMP programs via training and paperwork review
Ensure sanitary standards are accurately maintained by sanitation inspections
Determine Corrective and Preventative Actions for deviations in facility sanitation
Point of contact for Chemical Supply Vendor, the Uniform Service, Waste Management and any additional cleaning or sanitation services.
Coordinate and collaborate with the Maintenance Team and Maintenance Project Manager on capital projects; help oversee capital projects to ensure compliance with cGMP sanitation programs and plant safety
Manages the sanitation supply and labor costs to be in line with annual department and plant financial targets and goals
Partner with the Quality Leadership to manage facility hygiene through development and communication of sanitation standards for those who are doing the cleaning (sanitation) and those inspecting (quality) to support production changeovers
Conduct sanitation and food safety audits with the Quality Manager that result in compliance with all existing food safety, regulatory compliance and GMP policies
Support the development, implementation, maintenance and ongoing improvement of SQF systems
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Food or another Science-related discipline. Experience will be considered in place of Bachelor’s degree.
3-5 years plant experience in Quality and/or Sanitation at a food manufacturing facility preferred
Strong understanding of HACCP and sanitation principles
Ability to be flexible with work hours, including coverage of off shifts
Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision effectively
Commitment to steadily improving the Organization and creating a strong performance-based work environment
Have the ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization
Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, decisive nature and a high level of initiative
Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
Ability to understand and communicate work instructions in English
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:
Position may require repetitive movement, bending and twisting, using hands to handle objects; exposure to sustained noise levels; working in very hot temperatures; exposure to hazards such as machinery, slippery floors, ladders and powered industrial vehicles. May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally team lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Able to work in an environment containing nuts, peanuts, dairy, grains and other allergens.
Primarily a day shift position but must be willing to work some off hours and weekends if necessary.
