Job Summary: The Sanitation Manager is directly responsible for Plant Sanitation. This position is also the primary back up for the Sr. Quality & Food Safety Manager. The Sanitation Manager will lead and develop Sanitation Lead and Technicians and ensure the team is driving results in Food Safety, Quality, Sanitation.
Essential Functions:
Develop and implement food safety programs and procedures as BRC Leader to ensure all aspects of food process, food safety, raw materials, finished food, and customer specifications are covered
Develop and execute Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) to ensure excellent facility hygiene is maintained
Support creation and training for SSOPs for production equipment in partnership with Operations team
Ensure compliance with sanitation aspects of all regulatory, BRC, Third-Party Certifications (Organic, Gluten Free, Kosher) and Customer Food Safety standards and audits
Execute procedures and comply with audit requirements including record review, facility review
Conduct investigations for Environmental Monitoring Program.
Manage Chemical Control and Sanitation Program and external vendor performance
Manage sanitation supply and chemical inventories
Train, supervise, and develop direct reports:
Create, Train, and Verify SOPs for Sanitation teams for facility (MSS), drain, and equipment cleaning
Conducts and creates sanitation department safety and cleaning training. Arrange for training through sanitation vendors as necessary
Teach problem solving, critical thinking, and “Teaming with Production” to Sanitation teams
Maintain proper departmental staffing levels and schedules, monitor overtime budget, and develop partners to succeed and grow
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures in area of people management
Conduct Performance evaluations and administer disciplinary action as required
Partner with Warehouse, Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and Finance Teams to:
Be a presence on the production floor (80% of time is expected to occur on the production floor)
Act as the main contact for day-to-day sanitation activities
Drive facility sanitation improvements including partnering with Operations to utilize best cleaning methods and technique, evaluate SSOPs, cleaning effectiveness, cleaning order of operations.
Ensure plant-wide compliance with all Sanitation programs via training, document and record review
Accurately communicate with Supervisors and Managers of other departments
Determine Corrective and Preventative Actions for deviations in procedures and processes
Provide reliable and accurate departmental information to Finance to ensure that end of month closing schedules are met
Maintain and enforce company standards. Coach and train employees on GMP’s.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biological Science or equivalent
7-10 years of experience in Quality Assurance at a food manufacturing facility
HACCP certification, PCQI certification
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Understanding of production equipment in relation to sanitary design and disassembly, reassembly in relation to sanitation procedures
Understanding and experience with Sanitation including SSOPs, chemical selection, and supply management
Flexibility and the ability to remain organized, establish a plan and execute on Company priorities
Commitment to steadily improving the organization and creating an outstanding performance-based work environment
Experience with industry standards, regulations, and audits such as: FSMA, GFSI (SQF, BRC), HACCP
Strong ability to train and engage other employees
Establish credibility-excellent communication skills, written and verbal
Ability to communicate and understand work instructions in English. Ability to manage communication using various styles (written, oral, symbolic) within a diverse team environment with multiple languages
Working Conditions/Physical Factors:
Able to conduct work in adherence to BRC and Bridgetown Natural Foods policies
Able to work in environment containing nuts, peanuts, milk, grains and other allergens
Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to safely maneuver through a production and warehouse environment
Ability to be flexible with work hours, shifts, and shifting priorities based on Production schedule
