Position Overview
The Sandblaster & Painter is responsible for surface preparation, blasting, and coating of steel structures, pipelines, and other critical assets. This role plays a key part in corrosion prevention and coating integrity by applying protective finishes that meet client and industry standards. Candidates must demonstrate strong technical skills, safety awareness, and attention to quality.
Key Responsibilities
Perform surface preparation by sandblasting, grinding, or power tool cleaning according to specifications.
Apply protective coatings and paints using spray, brush, or roller methods.
Mix and test coatings and materials to ensure proper consistency and coverage.
Inspect and measure surface cleanliness, profile, and coating thickness for compliance.
Operate and maintain blasting and coating equipment (compressors, blast pots, spray guns, hoses).
Read and interpret job specifications, coating procedures, and safety data sheets (SDS).
Ensure all work complies with NACE/SSPC standards and client requirements.
Maintain accurate records of materials used, surface prep methods, and coating application.
Follow all safety and environmental protocols, including use of PPE and containment methods.
Train and guide helpers or junior personnel when needed.
Travel to various job sites; overnight stays may be required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum 1–2 years of industrial painting or sandblasting experience (pipeline, tank, or structural preferred).
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
Ability to read and follow detailed technical instructions and safety procedures.
Strong commitment to quality, safety, and teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with SSPC/NACE standards and surface preparation grades.
Experience with industrial coating systems (epoxy, urethane, zinc, etc.).
NACE Level I or II or SSPC C3/C5 certification preferred.
OSHA 10, SafeLand, or Confined Space Entry certification.
