The position is responsible for offering sample preparation (receiving, weighing, fusion and milling) support to the highest quality standards within Alfred H Knight South Africa Rustenburg Laboratory.

To be successful at Alfred H Knight the incumbents will need to display the following:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Responsibilities

Receiving, identifying and preparing samples for analysis (Weighing, fusion, De-slaging and button milling), storage and disposal as prescribed in the laboratory operating procedures.

Performing milling efficiency testing on the received samples.

Understanding and following the laboratory operating procedures.

Carrying out instructions from the Laboratory Chemist (6E) to meet sample preparation deadlines and escalate any problems to the Laboratory Chemist (6E).

Updating all the records and logbooks throughout the process of sample preparation and ensuring that they are clearly and easily auditable and traceable.

Providing ad hoc support to Sample Preparation team when the need arises as seen fit by the Laboratory Chemist (6E)

Ensuring at all times that a high degree of accuracy and precision is applied to sample preparation (6E) through verification of Analytical balances and Fusion furnaces

Ensuring that agreed daily work schedules and targets are met at all times

Implementation of the ISO17025:2017 quality management system within the 6E Laboratory section under the guidance of the Laboratory chemists (6E)

Participating in liaison with the Laboratory Chemist (6E) in group quality initiatives, round robins and proficiency testing schemes

Identifying problems on results production and turnaround times and escalate them timeously to the Laboratory Chemist (6E)

Ensuring the confidentiality of all results at all times.

Ensuring that excellent housekeeping is maintained at all times within the 6E Laboratory Section and that samples are stored correctly at all times and are easily retrievable when required  

Required Competencies

Computer Literacy.

Required Qualifications

Grade 12 (with Maths and Science)

Required work experience

Minimum of 3 years working in a Sample Preparation or Laboratory environment (advantageous)
