Sales Manager

Role purpose (position scope):
Reporting to the Business Unit Manager, the Sales Manager is a high-visibility, developmental leadership role responsible for supporting the day-to-day commercial and operational execution of the Business Unit. Serving as a primary interface between customers and Canyon’s internal teams, the Sales Manager ensures customer requirements are clearly defined, communicated, and executed effectively across engineering, operations, customer service, and other support functions. This role requires the ability to balance customer needs, operational constraints, and business priorities to support sound and profitable business decisions.
The Sales Manager is responsible for driving timely cross-functional action to support customer commitments and Business Unit objectives. This role drives resolution of customer and operational issues, supports pricing and contract activities, identifies new business opportunities, and ensures alignment and accountability across engineering, operations, customer service, and other functional teams. The Sales Manager also serves as a primary escalation point for customer and business issues and helps maintain continuity of Business Unit operations during periods of Business Unit Manager absence or travel.
Key Responsibilities:
Own day-to-day customer relationships and serve as a primary point of contact for assigned accounts
Drive cross-functional accountability across engineering, operations, customer service, and Business Unit teams to ensure customer commitments are met and issues are resolved quickly and effectively
Coordinate with Sales Engineers and internal teams to ensure customer requirements are translated into actionable technical and operational plans
Identify customer needs and develop business cases, pricing strategies, and commercial opportunities
Participate in and coordinate contract negotiations, opportunity development, and commercial activities to drive bookings and profitable growth
Monitor sales, bookings, and account performance to identify risks, opportunities, and required corrective actions
Partner closely with the Business Unit Manager to support forecasting, annual business planning, and strategic initiatives
Act as a key escalation point for customer concerns, operational challenges, and execution issues requiring cross-functional coordination
Support continuity of Business Unit operations and decision-making during periods of Business Unit Manager travel or absence
Analyze sales trends, market conditions, customer feedback, and competitive activity to support tactical and strategic decision-making
Represent Canyon at customer meetings, trade shows, and industry events to strengthen relationships and identify growth opportunities
Other duties as assigned, consistent with the scope and level of the role

Negotiation, pricing, and contractual knowledge with the ability to support profitable business decisions
Ability to navigate ambiguous or changing customer requirements throughout the sales cycle and order fulfillment process
Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple customer issues, opportunities, and business activities simultaneously
Ability to identify customer needs and translate them into actionable business and operational requirements
Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze sales, bookings, forecasting, and customer performance data
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, operations, finance, and customer service teams to support customer and business objectives
Ethical leadership, professionalism, and sound decision-making skills
Regular and reliable attendance; consistent physical presence is required to effectively perform the essential functions of the role, including customer interaction and cross-functional collaboration
Employees must be physically onsite to perform the majority of the essential job functions
Proficient command of English operational and legal language, both written and verbal
Proficient with Microsoft Office, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software
Experience with aerospace products, manufacturing environments, or aerospace technologies preferred
Key Measures and Milestones:
Achieve or exceed Business Unit bookings and sales targets
Improve customer satisfaction metrics as measured through customer scorecards and feedback
Improve responsiveness and resolution time for customer issues and escalations
Maintain quarterly bookings forecast accuracy
Drive conversion of identified customer opportunities into bookings and revenue
Support achievement of Business Unit profitability and operational performance objectives
Education and Experience:
Bachelor degree or higher from an accredited university or college
3+ years of sales experience in the aerospace and defense industry
Experience working in cross-functional manufacturing or engineering-driven environments preferred
Physical Demands:
Tasks involve light physical effort in sedentary to light work; may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects or materials (5 – 10 lbs.).
Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% as required for customer meetings, trade shows, and business support activities
