In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in manganese, as well as copper exploration projects under way in North West Queensland. Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.  
The Safety Officer – Data and Reporting is responsible for the integrity, governance, and optimisation of Safety and Health data, systems, and the SHE Management System documentation. The role ensures accurate, timely, and actionable safety performance insights through robust data analysis, standardised reporting, and effective system administration.  
The position maintains control of SHEMS documentation by ensuring all safety, health, and environmental documents, records, reports, and communications are properly controlled, current, accessible, and compliant with organisational and regulatory requirements. This includes ownership of document control processes such as version management, approval workflows, distribution, and record retention.  
The role supports site leadership and the broader safety function by driving data quality, governing system use (Isometrix), and ensuring both data and documentation frameworks enable informed decision-making, audit readiness, and continuous improvement in safety performance.  
Your key responsibilities will include:  
• Ensure consistent application of safety & health principles in all site interactions within and beyond site boundaries; Act as a role model and create a workplace culture where safety and health for the site is paramount.  
• Monitor and report on all S&H performance data, with a focus on automation of reports / dashboards for efficient communication of key information to the frontline.  
• Support operational areas on the appropriate use of measures, metrics, and analytical tools to enhance safety reporting, incident investigation and incident management.  
• Review all Safety data received and liaise with source information when required to obtain more detail or to complete information where detail is lacking.  
• Support and monitor training in the use of the safety and health reporting system (Isometrix)  
• Monitor and support timely release of Alert 1 and Alert 2 from Isometrix  
• Conduct routine and ad-hoc data analysis and reporting as required; End of Month, Quarter, Annual Safety and Health data entry and reporting – review of information in Isometrix and clarification of all data with LFI Superintendent and Safety and Health Manager.  
• Provide governance over the access and use of the site safety and health reporting system (i.e. Isometrix).  
• Conduct random assurance checks on data capture and close out.  
• Improve sustainability performance of the AA safety organisation over time. For example, pparticipate in cross-functional integration on sustainability to manage relevant risks/impacts  
• Contribute to a purpose-led, high-performing culture within the site safety function that is aligned with the company values, is inclusive and promotes diversity  
• Work in an integrated way to provide a multi-disciplinary approach and balanced view across all major disciplines  
• Support compliance with internal and external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirements  
To be successful in this role, you will have: 
• Tertiary qualifications (such as a Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as Safety is highly desirable  
• Formal qualifications in Safety, combined with practical experience of 3+ years is advantageous  
• Proficiency in data analysis, reporting and systems 
• Ability to perform under pressure, with a strong attention to detail  
• Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values  
• Based at Capcoal Mine, Middlemount 
• Monday to Friday roster, with flexible work arrangements available 
• FIFO, DIDO or Residential (subsidised)
