Hawk-Eye Innovations is recruiting for a Systems Operator to support the delivery of our technology services across both Rugby League and Cricket in Australia. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of sports technology as part of a dynamic operations team delivering elite officiating and broadcast solutions.

The successful candidate will primarily support the National Rugby League (NRL) during the domestic season, operating Hawk-Eye’s SMART Replay system at the NRL Bunker in Sydney and at match venues across Australia and New Zealand.

During the NRL off-season, the role will transition to supporting Hawk-Eye’s cricket operations, working on broadcast tracking systems and assisting with on-site system deployment and operation.

This role is ideally suited to a graduate or early-career candidate with strong technical aptitude and a passion for sport and live broadcast environments.

What the Job Is All About

The Systems Operator will play an important role in supporting the operational delivery of Hawk-Eye technology across multiple sports.

Working alongside experienced project leads and operators, the role combines technical system operation, logistical coordination, stakeholder interaction and operational support.

As experience grows, the role will take on increasing responsibility across both Rugby League and Cricket operations, including aspects of operational coordination and event preparation.

Seasonal Structure of the Role

Rugby League Season (NRL)

During the domestic rugby league season, the Systems Operator will:

• Operate the SMART Replay system at the NRL Bunker in Sydney

• Support match-day delivery across NRL fixtures

• Assist the Project Lead with key operational tasks, including resource coordination and logistics

• Liaise with match officials, bunker staff and broadcast partners

• Monitor and operate replay systems during live matches

Cricket Season (Off-Season Deployment)

During the NRL off-season, the Systems Operator will transition into Hawk-Eye’s cricket operations team and will:

• Assist with setup and calibration of Hawk-Eye broadcast tracking systems

• Support system operation during cricket broadcasts

• Work as part of on-site delivery teams at domestic and international cricket fixtures

• Contribute to operational preparation and equipment management

This seasonal structure provides exposure to multiple sports and technologies while ensuring year-round operational development.

Key Responsibilities

Match Operations

• Assist with setup and configuration of Hawk-Eye systems for Rugby League and Cricket events

• Conduct pre-match checks in accordance with operational procedures

• Monitor and operate systems during live broadcasts

• Respond to requests from match officials and production teams

• Ensure the highest standard of system reliability and delivery

Operational Support

• Support the Project Lead in coordinating operational resources and match logistics

• Assist with workforce scheduling and operational planning where required

• Maintain operational documentation and assist with equipment preparation

Technical Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and report software or hardware issues

• Maintain and prepare equipment used for system deployment

• Support ongoing system development through feedback and operational insight

Stakeholder Liaison

• Liaise professionally with match officials, production teams, stadium staff and broadcast partners

• Represent Hawk-Eye on-site in a professional and collaborative manner

Development Path

Starting as a graduate or early-career hire, the Systems Operator will progressively develop expertise across Hawk-Eye’s technologies and operational workflows. At the beginning of the role, the operator will aim to:

• Gain a strong understanding of operational workflows across Rugby League and Cricket systems

• Learn system setup procedures and broadcast calibration processes

• Develop a working knowledge of supporting software tools used within the production environment

As experience grows, the Systems Operator will be expected to:

• Operate systems confidently during live matches

• Support operational leadership responsibilities on selected events

• Assist with training casual operators

• Contribute ideas and improvements to operational workflows

More experienced operators may progress toward roles involving operational leadership or specialist technical responsibilities within the department.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• Strong technical aptitude and interest in broadcast technology

• Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills

• Ability to remain calm and focused in a live broadcast environment

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends

• A strong interest in sport, ideally including knowledge of Rugby League and Cricket

• The right to live and work in Australia

Desirable Experience

• A university degree in Science, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field

• Experience in broadcast production, IT systems or live event technology

• Familiarity with replay systems, video technology or sports analysis tools

• Experience working in live sports environments
