Ruby on Rails Developer

We have an opportunity for a Ruby on Rails Developer in Washington, DC.

This full-time developer needed for an expanding set of business-critical applications, both in-house and customer-facing. Work with a friendly and helpful team, using the latest versions of Ruby and Rails. Ability to write quality code for very large systems is critical. Knowledge of jQuery, RSpec and Linux is helpful.

Opportunity to work in small, self-directed, project-based groups, using Agile methodology, some pair programming and two-week iterations. Each developer will be involved in requirements gathering, design and coding. New projects and groups form throughout the year to encourage exploration of new tools and techniques. Ideal candidate will enjoy solving problems and taming complexity.

Ideal candidates will have:

-       5+ years database driven backend application development experience

-       2+ years experience in Ruby on Rails

-       a familiarity with the latest datastores (Memcached, Redis, MongoDB)

-       an appreciation for the best Agile practices including continuous integration, unit testing, and planning poker

-       a desire to work on the system end to end and not be siloed onto a specific technology

-       experience building enterprise quality applications (scalable, HA)

Prefer candidate with:

-       some familiarity with mobile technologies (iOS, Android)

-       experience in the education management space
