POSITION DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Laborer
Department: Road & Bridge
Reports To: Traffic Control Supervisor & District Maintenance Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs manual labor in the construction, maintenance, and repair of County roads and related facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or peripheral duties that may be required. Rio Blanco County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of this job at any time.
▪ Performs basic manual tasks for extended periods of time out-of-doors in all weather conditions.
▪ Uses hand tools and operates power tools used in construction and maintenance of County roads.
▪ Performs flag person duties as appropriate.
▪ May perform minor maintenance on equipment used.
▪ Maintain timesheet, log, maintenance records, and any other required paperwork.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
▪ Available on scheduled shifts and accepts overtime work and activity.
▪ Open to new ideas and ways to do things. Accepts changes in relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
▪ Accepts criticism and feedback. Moods are generally stable, upbeat and positive.
▪ Voluntarily starts projects. Attempts non-routine jobs and tasks
▪ Capacity to make reasonable decisions. Uses a common sense approach to handling situations. Obtains and analyzes facts and applies sound judgment.
▪ Work performed is accurate, thorough and useful. Projects are completed with no loose ends.
▪ Dependability and trustworthiness. Carries out assignments without follow up. Does not produce incomplete or unacceptable work.
▪ Performs job duties according to established safety practices. Keeps work area free from hazards. Suggests and helps implement safer ways to perform job duties.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
▪ 18 years of age
Skill in:
▪ Skill in operating hand and power tools.
Abilities:
▪ Ability to qualify for the CDOT Flagging Certificate.
▪ Ability to learn the operation of a variety of hand and power tools.
▪ Ability to work well with others in understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions.
▪ Ability to learn and practice safety precautions.
Education and/or Experience:
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
▪ High School Diploma or Equivalent
Licenses or Certificates:
▪ Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
Physical Demands: ▪ Walking, standing, bending, or stooping
▪ Walking or standing for long periods of time.
▪ Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
▪ Handling, seizing, holding, grasping, or otherwise working with hand or hands.
▪ Unaided lifting up to 50 pounds.
▪ Aided lifting over 50 pounds.
▪ Climbing ladders.
Work Environment:
▪ Work is performed out-of-doors performing manual labor.
▪ Exposure to loud noises, vibrations, heights, and/or cuts and abrasions are recurrent.
▪ Frequently exposed to dirt, dust, mud, grease, and extreme weather conditions.
▪ Safety precautions must be continuously followed in this position.
Other: ▪ Position may require some overtime.
