Summary / Objective
As the Ambulatory Surgery Center Nurse Manager, this position will manage the daily operations of the surgery center. The Nurse Manager will be responsible for managing efficient and effective operations of the center, and will be responsible for hiring, training, and developing the ASC staff. Candidates who will be seriously considered for this opening will have previous experience as an RN leader in an ASC setting and possess excellent critical thinking skills. This position is expected to assist with clinical staff coverage, as needed.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Monitor and manage all aspects of the ASC’s operations as a means of continuously improving the patient experience and ensuring that every patient encounter is positive
Ensure compliance with all accreditation standards; maintain State Certifications and AAAHC Accreditation
Collaborate with the Administrator to represent the ASC with accrediting bodies before, during and after site visits
In conjunction with the Administrator, analyze the ASC’s room and staff utilization and champion opportunities for improvement
Contribute to a just culture that fosters respect, trust, and open dialog
Be a reliable presence in the ASC and conduct regular staff meetings to provide information and solicit feedback
Manage, coach and mentor staff by example and through use of clearly communicated expectations, progress meetings and performance reviews
Develop and maintain a constructive working relationship with the ASC’s Medical Director
Provide staff coverage for clinical roles in the ASC, as needed
Analytical skills necessary in order to analyze the ASC workload requirements, plan and schedule nursing staff to meet the needs of the ASC, and to identify and resolve problems and administer available resources effectively
Monitor daily operating activity of the ASC such as staff productivity, daily surgery schedule, clinical competencies, and nursing practices, etc.
Responsible for ensuring the ASC’s compliance with OSHA regulations
Works collaboratively with the surgery center scheduler to ensure cases are scheduled efficiently and accurately
Manages the operating room environment in a fiscally responsible manner
Oversees medical capital equipment needs in the operating and procedure rooms, and makes recommendations for new equipment when needed. Troubleshoots equipment breakdowns
Directs and assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance, and conducts and participates in emergency preparedness drills
Collaborates with the clinical coordinator to ensure adequate staffing and to ensure the office/surgery center schedules run smoothly and efficiently
Participates in the recruiting and selection of ASC personnel
Conducts performance reviews, annual competencies, and training of ASC clinical personnel
Initiates counseling and disciplinary actions of ASC staff members when appropriate. Provides written documentation of such actions for the employee’s file
Experience/Education
Graduated from an accredited nursing school
Current, unencumbered Georgia RN license
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification (preferred)
Minimum of five years surgical nursing experience including two years supervisory level experience
Must be proficient in the skills needed to perform all clinical roles in the ASC including preop/PACU/recovery RN, perioperative RN, and surgical technician
Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities
Physical Demands
Average shift involves: standing, walking, bending, reaching – 75%, sitting – 25%
Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height
Ability to listen and speak on the telephone and write simultaneously
Ability to operate multi-line telephone system; computer keyboard and printer
Vision - adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as read medication orders, medical charts, etc.
Hearing - adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as communicating with patients and physicians
Speaking - adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as communicating with patients, family members and physicians
Dexterity - adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as administering medication, assisting physicians
Mental Demands - adequate to perform the essential functions of the job such as unpleasant patients (stress, violence, etc.)
Working Conditions:
Position requires work in a medical facility where exposure to bodily fluids is likely
Personal protective equipment is required
Knowledge of hazardous materials safe handling and universal precautions is essential
