Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Retail Assistant to support our University of Auckland Campus Store, which sells branded clothing and merchandise and occasionally operates pop‑up stores for special events. This is a fixed‑term retail role based at our central Auckland campus.
In this role, you’ll deliver excellent customer service to students and customers and support the day‑to‑day operation of the store. This includes visual merchandising, in‑store stock management, responding to customer enquiries, cash handling and reconciliation, opening and closing the store, and managing and dispatching online orders.
The Campus Store provides a range of branded apparel and merchandise that allows the University community to express pride and connection to the University of Auckland. The store primarily operates Monday to Friday, with up to six evening and weekend shifts to support graduations and other key University events.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Customer Excellence: Provide warm, friendly service in-store and manage the store’s email inquiries to ensure a great customer experience.
•  Store Presentation: Maintain high merchandising standards by replenishing stock and setting up promotions as directed by the manager.
• Operational Support: Handle daily store operations, including opening/closing duties, receiving inwards goods, and staffing temporary locations.
• Digital & Admin: Process and dispatch online orders, reconcile daily sales, and ensure all pricing and product info in the POS system is accurate.
This is a 12-month fixed-term, full-time position (37.5 hours per week). The salary range for this role is $55,500 to $56,500, negotiable depending on skills and experience.
Applicants must be flexible to work rostered shifts between 8:30 am - 4:00 pm and 9:30 am - 6:00 pm across two on‑campus store locations, with occasional late shifts during graduation pop‑up stores.
