Job Summary
The Residential & Commercial Overhead Door Installer is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial overhead door systems. This role includes assembling hardware, operating power and hand tools, installing openers, weather stripping, and door accessories, as well as troubleshooting and servicing existing systems. The Installer works both independently and as part of a team, ensuring quality workmanship, adherence to safety standards, and customer satisfaction. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and professional work environment at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Assembly
Follow work order specifications to install new overhead door systems, openers, dock seals, and bumpers.
Assemble door systems, including all required hardware, and install weather stripping.
Remove and properly dispose of existing doors as needed.
Repair, service, and replace hardware on existing overhead doors.
Measure and mark guidelines for orders and installations.
Assist with installation of larger projects or complex systems as needed.
Tools, Equipment & Safety
Operate specialized tools and equipment safely and according to company procedures.
Maintain a clean and organized work site and shop, ensuring safe work practices are followed.
Notify supervisors of any safety concerns, issues, or supply shortages.
Work safely at heights and in safety-sensitive environments.
Inventory & Materials Management
Organize and load materials needed for installations.
Maintain inventory control in work vehicles and assist with tracking shop supplies.
Notify supervisors when supplies are low to ensure timely ordering and availability.
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate effectively with Project Coordinators regarding service calls and job progress.
Collaborate with supervisors and co-workers to ensure smooth project execution.
Assist with problem-solving and address issues proactively to act in the best interest of Northerm.
Reporting & Accountability
Monitor and report job progress daily.
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company standards, client expectations, and safety protocols.
Requirements
High School Diploma.
Minimum 1 year of experience in residential or commercial overhead door installation, or in a related manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean abstract.
Comfortable working safely at heights and in safety-sensitive work sites.
Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Physically able to lift heavy loads and perform tasks requiring standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Basic math and measurement skills.
Current Fall Arrest, First Aid, and WHMIS certifications (or willingness to obtain).
Demonstrated commitment to safety, including proper use of PPE and adherence to protocols.
Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to follow instructions.
Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze information and troubleshoot issues.
