About the Role
Sydney Health & Care Services (SHCS) is hiring Disability Support Workers to join our Residential care team in Supported Independent Living in Wollongong NSW.
We have Casual shifts available and Part time available:
Part time shifts – Must be already insulin-administration trained ($34.58 per hour)
Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat: 6am to 2pm
Tues and Sat: 2pm to 10pm
Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun: Sleepovers 10pm to 6am
Casual shifts offered at $43.23 per hour
Female only – manual handling trained for Friday and Saturday 6am to 2pm and 10pm to 6am sleepover
Male or female – other various ad hoc shifts available for morning 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm.
Male only – challenging behaviours, multiple restrictive practices and faecal smearing behaviours (offered at $44.59 per hour) for Monday and Tuesday: 2pm to 10pm and back up for other supports.
Behaviours of concern you must be confident supporting:
This role may involve supporting participants who can display:
self-injurious behaviours (e.g., head hitting, biting)
physical aggression (e.g., grabbing, scratching, striking)
property damage (e.g., throwing items, slamming doors)
absconding/exit-seeking behaviours
sensory-seeking and repetitive behaviours
personal care/hygiene complexities
Key responsibilities
Follow BSP strategies consistently (including Green/Yellow/Red response)
Use low arousal de-escalation and proactive support strategies
Provide personal care, hygiene support, and daily living assistance
Medication administration (Webster packs) and PRN processes as authorised
Complete clear documentation: shift notes, ABC/behaviour tracking, incident reporting
Maintain participant dignity, privacy, and professional boundaries
Escalate concerns through the chain: Team Leader → House Coordinator → ROM (after hours via On-Call)
What we’re looking for
SIL experience and confidence with complex behaviours (highly regarded)
Strong documentation skills and ability to follow plans precisely
Medication competency (or willingness to complete competency assessment promptly)
Calm under pressure, consistent, and respectful communication
Essential requirements:
NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain immediately)
National Police Check
First Aid + CPR (current)
Must have a reliable car that is insured and have NSW Driver's License (Provisional is acceptable)
Minimum Cert IV in Disability / Community Services / Mental Health (or equivalent)
Unrestricted Australian work rights
