Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate professional to join our team as a Resettlement Worker. This role is responsible for providing initial supports and services to newly arrived Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs), helping them successfully transition into the community. Working closely with the Refugee Resettlement Manager and community partners, the Resettlement Worker conducts needs assessments, develops individualized plans, and connects participants with essential services such as housing, healthcare, and education. The role also includes supporting housing placement, accompanying participants to key appointments, and delivering culturally responsive orientation sessions. This position plays an important role in ensuring participants receive timely, coordinated, and inclusive support while contributing to program effectiveness, accurate reporting, and continuous service improvement.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to RAP Manager

 

Prime Functions:

Facilitating and delivering effective Resettlement services

Conducts participant needs assessment focusing on resettlement services and refers participants to appropriate resources when needed

Develops and updates individual orientation and resettlement plans with participants to address their changing and ongoing needs

Addresses the participant’s immediate and long-term concerns, researches and provides appropriate, accurate information

Provides guidance to meet immediate needs such as housing, education and cultural transition

Advocates on behalf of the participant, connecting them with relevant government departments and community organizations

Obtains participant’s written consent for the release of information to agencies on as needed basis

Develops, updates and delivers orientations e.g., Life Skills for Refugee Families, Health and Wellbeing, Tenancy Rights etc.

Providing Housing Assistance

Utilizes rental resources, community contacts and leads using social media ads etc. to look for suitable housing for participants based on size of family and their monthly income

Contacts property managers and home owners to determine suitability of the unit and whether property manager is willing to rent to refugee participant/ family

Arranges time to view the housing unit and reports to RAP Manager on all details

If the unit is found suitable, assist Resettlement Workers to set up time with the landlord, for the family to view the home and sign lease with the landlord

Providing accompaniment for GARs

Receive GARs at airport and/or Welcome Centre

Accompany to various appointments as required

Participating as a proactive member of the Immigrant Services team 

Maintains regular contact and consultation with community agencies to ensure participants’ access to required services and resources

Makes community presentations as requested by the Refugee Resettlement Manager

Assists in identifying gaps and issues in the delivery of Resettlement services

Markets and promotes Resettlement services under the direction of the Refugee Resettlement Manager

Participates actively in professional development and training opportunities

Participates in team meetings; Assists in short- and long-term planning

Monitoring, documenting and maintaining accurate participant Resettlement data 

Generates and submits activity reports, as requested, to the Refugee Resettlement Manager

Accurately inputs and maintains participant information and progress using CARMIS database, ICARE and participant files

Ensures participants sign KCR disclaimers

Ensures participant files are maintained in a confidential manner and disposed of in a secure fashion

Collects evaluation data

Qualifications:

Post-secondary education in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience

Knowledge of community resources and agencies, including professional and specialized services for at-risk or marginalized populations

Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, written, and verbal communication skills

Knowledge and experience in cross-cultural communication and service methods appropriate to clients with low literacy and low English skills

Language and cultural proficiency for serving participants in Spanish or Arabic is preferred

Demonstrated computer proficiency

Familiarity with issues facing newcomers and vulnerable populations

Expertise in working with participants suffering from social, emotional, and mental health issues

Ability to set boundaries and practice self-care
