Position Summary
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, plans and executes laboratory projects and experiments. Performs technical tasks in the field of histology, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and laboratory quality assurance , etc. Selects and modifies methodology. Analyses and interprets data. Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Participates in manuscript preparation. Maintains equipment.
Job Description
• Participate in routine and specialized histology services including tissue handling, use of the tissue processor, embedding station, microtomes, automated stainer, cryostat and execution of special stains according to established methodologies;
• Proficiently use a variety of laboratory equipment's such as balances, pH meters, pipettors, laminar flow hoods, incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, microtomes, cryostats, centrifuges, automated tissue processors, automated stainers, cover slippers, tissue microarrayers, immunohistochemistry stainers, and computers;
• Respond to clients’ emails regarding project design, sample preparation, sample submission, and other histology-related questions;
• Provide technical training and assistance to staffs/trainees from laboratories located in the Life Sciences Complex of specific instruments dedicated to their use (microtome, cryostat and staining techniques) and act as a resource for the quality control of results;
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations in use of equipment, storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials;
• Ensure maintenance and servicing for the equipment and inform the facility manager of any issues arising with the equipment in the histology facility;
• Stay abreast with the knowledge, skills and new developments in the field of histo-technology, IHC staining, IHF staining, construction of TMAs;
• Any other related activities assigned by the Research Supervisor.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Applicants must hold a BSc or MSc or a laboratory technician diploma. Training in histology/pathology is an asset. Demonstrated histology experience in a laboratory environment. Working knowledge of computer software including Excel, Word, and ability to work cooperatively in a team is essential.
