Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The Research Operations Adviser plays a key role in supporting smooth post‑award research operations across the University. You’ll work closely with faculties, LSRI teams, and central research stakeholders to provide expert guidance on research contracts, financial processes, and compliance. This role suits someone who enjoys improving systems, building strong relationships, and translating complex information into clear, practical guidance.

Key aspects of the role include:

• Providing expert advice on research contract queries, compliance, and financial requirements.
• Developing guidance, processes, and training to support research operations.
• Analysing data and preparing reports to support decision-making and contract performance.
• Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships across faculties, RIO, and funders.
• Identifying risks, monitoring financial performance, and escalating issues as required.
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across systems, processes, and knowledge resources.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), 12-Month Fixed Term Position.

You’ll bring strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, along with the ability to navigate complex information and turn it into practical solutions. You enjoy working collaboratively, solving problems, and supporting a diverse research community.

You will have:

• Experience in stakeholder relationship management and contract or compliance-related work.
• Strong analytical, data interpretation, and financial skills.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complexity clearly.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
• Strength in building relationships and influencing stakeholders in a large, complex environment.
• A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
• Experience in research operations would be an advantage
