Job Summary:

The Segel lab at Harvard’s Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology (https://hscrb.harvard.edu/labs/segel-lab/) explores the biology of aging through the lens of developmental timing and lifespan evolution. Our research focuses on how molecular signaling pathways evolve and shift with age, offering insights into the fundamental mechanisms that drive aging. Under direction of the Principal Investigator and the lab members, the research assistant will be responsible for general laboratory support tasks and will assist lab members with scientific projects.

Job-Specific Responsibilities:

Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Advanced imaging work
• Animal work (mice)
• Scientific projects related to neuroscience
• Next generation sequencing library preparation

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about scientific research, is an excellent communicator and a team player, and understands the necessary groundwork to keep a fast-paced lab functional to join our team.

 

Basic Qualifications:

College level coursework in cellular and molecular biology is required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in biology or related field, with a focus on neuroscience at some point during academic career.
• Experience handling rodents in a laboratory setting.
• Computer experience relevant to analysis and documentation of experimental results is essential (Word, Excel, and other database management).
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to excel in a collaborative, team-oriented, fast-paced environment is important.
• A willingness to learn new techniques and the ability to take on new roles as the needs of the lab change.
• A degree of familiarity with gene sequencing and advanced imaging technology is a plus.

• Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that all duties and responsibilities must be performed at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.

Salary Grade and Ranges
