Overview
The Reconstruct research assistant will conduct research and support students and communications as part of an interdisciplinary team working on the Reconstruct initiative under the supervision of Michael Jemtrud in Architecture, Energy and Environment. The research is funded by an NSERC/Alliance grant (2022-2027), with several industry, community, government and academic partners and collaborators in Quebec, Canada and abroad.
Responsibilities
The research assistant will realize the following tasks, in collaboration with senior team members:
• Conduct research, writing and produce design details and graphics for the Reconstruct compendium and other dissemination material.
• Assist in translating research outputs into evaluation metrics (ex: climate resilience, health and well-being, etc.) for the Reconstruct retrofit tool suite.
• Contribute to and guide others in producing and delivering communications tools (presentations, visual communication material, and information graphics, white papers, etc.) aimed at collaborators, stakeholders and potential funders.
• Assist in the onboarding, mentoring, and organization of student researchers; act as a resource person, resolve workflow problems, and offer technical guidance.
• Support relationships and activities with collaborating stakeholders from Quebec and across Canada contributing to accelerating the mass deployment of DERs.
• Support other research, communications and logistics activities within the Reconstruct team as needed.
Education
Master’s degree in architecture or equivalent
Qualifications
• Past experience working with retrofits and adaptive reuse of buildings
• 2 years of cumulative work experience in AEC (architecture, engineering and construction) industry. Experience working in architecture firms is an asset
• Familiarity with key stakeholders and topics pertaining to the DER, climate resilience, off-site construction and social housing spheres in Quebec and Canada
• Skilled in interpreting and creating architectural drawings (including technial details) in accordance with professional standards and conventions using architectural software (Vectorworks, Rhino, VRay, Grasshopper, Revit)
• Experience in conducting literature reviews, producing graphics and documentation for research purposes and stakeholder engagement
• Experience in stakeholder engagement, project management, event planning and logistics
• Strong communication and written skills including fluency in English and functional French
• Fluent use of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and the Microsoft Office Suite
