Hiring Unit:
Prof. Michel Tremblay Lab - The Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Institute
Position Summary:
• Contract Period: May 1, 2026, to August 31, 2026 (4-months)
• Design, perform, and optimize cell-based, molecular biology, and immunology experiments to support ongoing research projects focused on signaling mechanisms underlying inflammation and programmed cell death, with an emphasis on protein tyrosine phosphatase function.
• Utilize and support in vivo mouse models of inflammation and immune activation to study disease-relevant mechanisms.
• Perform laboratory techniques under supervision, including cell culture, in vivo and ex vivo experiments, flow cytometry, ELISA, qPCR, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, and microscopy.
• Read literature and help with experimental design.
• Assist in resolving conceptual design issues, and support the development of models and simulations.
• Provide intellectual and technical input, help establish research methods and protocol design.
• Assist with the review and evaluation of research findings; assist with the preparation of reports, manuscripts, and publication-quality figures.
• Contribute to the writing of scientific publications.
• Assist with preparation of grant applications.
• Assist with training and supervision of graduate students.
• Perform administrative tasks related to the project.
Education & Experience:
• Possesses specialized knowledge of the field or discipline acquired through a Master’s Degree.
• Those who have recently completed their PhD program will be considered as well.
• Experience working with primary immune cells, including isolation and culturing of primary immune cells, such as bone-marrow-derived macrophages.
• Excellent knowledge of flow cytometry, and ELISA assays.
• Knowledge of animal models of systemic inflammation, including experience with the infection procedure, readouts of immune responses, tissue collection and downstream analysis of tissues (RNA/protein extraction), etc.
• Excellent knowledge in phosphatase biology, immune signaling pathways, and cell death mechanisms.
• Familiarity with tools such as GraphPad Prism, ImageLab, CellProfiler, and reference management software (e.g., EndNote)
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
• Proficiency in a range of laboratory techniques, including cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, qPCR, Western blotting, and microscopy.
• Good knowledge of research methodologies, experimental design, and data analysis techniques specific to immunology, molecular biology and biochemistry.
• Experience in conducting various immunological assays, such as cytokine profiling, cell proliferation assays, and immunofluorescence staining.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team, as research often involves interdisciplinary collaboration.
Knowledge of French and English:
• McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
• The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.
