Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences
Position Summary:
• Contribute to an ongoing research program focused on the origin and evolution of rare earth element (REE) mineralization at the Kwyjibo magnetite-apatite deposit.
• Compile, process, analyze, and interpret geochemical datasets, including the preparation of figures and other graphical representations of results
• Contribute to the refinement and improvement of current research approaches, analytical strategies, and geological interpretations
• Present research findings orally in supervisor meetings, group seminars, and scientific conferences
• Prepare datasets, interpretations, and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
Qualifications:
• Strong petrographic interpretation skills and demonstrated research problem-solving ability
• Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific results clearly and effectively
• Demonstrated ability to independently operate analytical instruments and interpret data used to determine mineral chemical and isotopic compositions, including SEM, EPMA, LA-ICP-MS and MC-ICP-MS
Experience and Education:
• Relevant research experience in geochemistry acquired through an MSc, or ongoing graduate studies of equivalent level.
• Specialized knowledge of REE mineralogy and mineralization processes, particularly in relation to iron oxide-apatite (IOA) deposits
