Remote OPI/VRI Interpreter (California-Based)

About the Role:

Accent on Languages is seeking professional Over-the-Phone (OPI) and Video Remote Interpreters (VRI) to support a critical project involving medical, 911, intervention, and social services calls. This is a freelance/contractor (1099) position offering flexible work hours.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide accurate and professional OPI/VRI interpretation for medical, emergency response (911), intervention, and social services calls.

Adhere to ethical standards, confidentiality, and professional conduct as required for sensitive interactions.

Demonstrate cultural competence and the ability to remain neutral while facilitating communication.

Follow client-specific guidelines, terminology, and protocols for various service areas.

Ensure clear, accurate, and efficient communication between Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals and service providers.

Requirements:

Must reside in California or be able to travel to a local office in California when required.

Fluency in English and at least one other language, with strong listening and speaking skills.

Experience in medical interpretation

Strong understanding of interpreter ethics, confidentiality (including HIPAA compliance), and professional standards.

Reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet, professional workspace for remote interpretation.

Ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications:

DOJ, CACI, or FBI clearance to work with Children and Family Services (CFS) highly preferred.

Certification or training in medical, legal, or community interpretation (e.g., CCHI, NBCMI, RID, or state court certification).

Previous experience in remote interpretation platforms and familiarity with industry-standard tools.
