Reports to the Clinical Services Manager, Laboratory Medicine.
Accountabilities:
• Comprehensive working knowledge of the theory, methodologies, and procedures in Clinical Biochemistry
• Supervise staff, providing guidance and feedback to ensure high performance
• Lead staff, monitor performance, and ensure alignment with objectives
• Collaborate with management to plan and coordinate work within the modality
• Manage modality workflows, addressing barriers and optimizing resources
• Ensure quality and safety standards are met and implement improvements
• Analyze and report on operational data, identifying areas for improvement
• Ensure safe, efficient modality operations and address performance issues
• Manage and monitor departmental budget, ensuring cost efficiency and alignment with goals
• Manage staff schedules and payroll with the staffing team, ensuring accuracy
• Contribute to employee performance reviews with constructive feedback
• Review and update policies, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance
• Plan for new programs, testing needs, and space requirements
• Ensure regulatory compliance through equipment checks and inventory management
• Participate in meetings, presenting modality-specific insights
• Participate in hospital committees or external meetings
• Travel between sites as required
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program or equivalent education (CSMLS)
• Must be registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
• Minimum six years experience as a laboratory technologist required
• Experience with hospital information systems, laboratory information systems and Paradigm document control software required
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills required
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to mentor and coach staff; strong conflict resolution skills preferred
• Supervisory experience in a hospital environment preferred
• Management and supervisory courses an asset
• Working knowledge of departmental budgets and schedules an asset
• Proven skills and competence in departmental policies, processes and procedures
• Experience in developing policies, processes and procedures, duties and responsibilities
• Experience coordinating workflow and prioritizing in a fast paced environment
• Demonstrate excellence in organization and time management skills to meet deadlines
• Demonstrate mature judgment and initiative and ability to effectively problem solve
• Strong ability to multitask, be assertive, flexible and responsive to conflicting priorities
• Must possess strong motivation skills as well as being self-motivated
• Ability to work independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team environment
• Excellent computer knowledge and skills
• Excellent attendance and punctuality record

• Ability to work and travel between all hospital sites
Hours: Currently Dyas, Monday to Friday - must be available to attend Osler sites after hours and during emergencies (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
SALARY:
Minimum: $45.57 per hour
Maximum: $58.48 per hour
