We are the Lead Agency for Child and Youth Mental Health System planning in our region. We’ve been here for families, for more than 60 years, offering innovative care and support for children and youth who are facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
As a registered charity and not-for-profit organization, we are funded by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. We deliver culturally responsive, accessible mental health services to children, youth, and families while providing system leadership and advocating to improve care in our community.
Position Summary:
Are you a compassionate Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse with a passion for mental health and a drive to create lasting impact? Vanier Children’s Mental Wellness is looking for a dedicated RN/RPN to be a key part of our team – a transformative, multidisciplinary program delivering life-changing support to children and youth facing complex mental health challenges.
In this rewarding role, you'll step beyond the clinic walls to bring specialized care directly into the community. You'll be part of a dynamic team of professionals providing intensive, individualized support designed to foster recovery, resilience, and independence. Using the principles of client-centered care and psychosocial rehabilitation, within the context of an interdisciplinary team approach, the successful candidate will provide intensive comprehensive community support/rehabilitation/treatment to individuals with serious mental illness who require a specialized level of community mental health care.
Education/Training/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (RN) or Diploma in Nursing (RPN).
Holds a current active registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing is considered an asset.
Previous nursing experience in institutional and community settings involving children.
Training and/or experience in child development and behaviour management.
Excellent assessment skills, including demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention skills for children and youth.
Experience with school systems, foster care, juvenile justice, and home-based services is an asset.
Valid Driver’s license in good standing.
Job Duties:
Review client medical questionnaires and arrange for any medical attention as required through the family physician.
Meets with child/youth/parent/guardian to review medical history, concerns, questions, or the recommended plan of treatment.
Receives all medication incident reports, assesses level of risk, and completes a preliminary investigation.
Provides feedback on all injury and medication incident reports to staff and supervisors and escalates appropriate risks to clinical director.
Attends case conferences upon request pertaining to the child and family’s health needs.
Documents pertinent medical information on the clinical record as per documentation standards.
Liaises with community physicians/, psychiatrists and other community professionals as required to support the clinical care needs of clients.
Responds to agency emergency medical situations.
Facilitates and coordinates team psychiatric consultations
Participates on appropriate agency-wide committees requiring medical input
Other duties as assigned.
Salary:
$32.50 - $40.87 per hour
Schedule:
Ability to attend work and provide services at several locations across London Middlesex
35-hour work week, flexible schedule, days and evenings required
