Position Overview

The Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive cardiopulmonary care to patients across the lifespan—from neonates to geriatrics—within both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role is essential in supporting high-quality patient outcomes through clinical expertise, critical thinking, and collaboration with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

Administer oxygen, aerosol, and ventilator therapies in accordance with physician orders and clinical protocols

Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis and respiratory assessments

Assist with advanced airway management, including intubation and extubation procedures

Respond to emergency situations as part of the clinical response team

Provide respiratory support during C-sections and neonatal resuscitation when needed

Conduct diagnostic testing, including EKGs and pulmonary function testing (spirometry)

Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatments, and equipment use

Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams

Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with regulatory and hospital standards

Minimum Qualifications

Credential: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

Licensure: Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in North Carolina

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) – required

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – required within 6 months of hire

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of respiratory care experience preferred
