EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Regional Community Engagement Facilitator 

Full Time Term Position – March 31, 2027 

Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba

Reporting to the MKO Community Safety Coordinator, the Regional Community Engagement Facilitator will assist identified MKO nations with the development of a Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (CSWBP).

 

MKO’s Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan (CSWBP) Initiative plays a crucial role in identifying a community safety & well-being vision for our northern First Nation communities, aligning overall with MKO’s First Nation Justice Strategy.

Role and Responsibilities

Facilitate the development of Community Safety and Wellbeing Plans for identified MKO nations.

Develop community safety and wellbeing assessments for each identified community through data collection.

Consult with local stakeholders and community to determine local priorities, identifying existing services and resources.

Collaborate with local stakeholders to identify strategies and actionable items to address unique community issues and challenges.

Develop and facilitate CSWBP presentations and engagement sessions.

Engage with community members, agencies, organizations, partners, and community stakeholders.

Cultivate, promote and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders.

Comply with all policies and procedures, by-laws and directives from each respective MKO nation.

Adhere to MKO policies, procedures and protocols.

Participate in MKO meetings as requested.

Demonstrate an active commitment towards professional growth and advancement through participation in training, workshops, etc.

Perform all other duties as assigned to engage and support MKO programs and member nations.  

Travel to northern and remote First Nation communities, and the ability to work flexible hours as needed is required.

MKO is political advocacy organization that works to represent the leadership and member First Nations. All staff at MKO may be given other duties as assigned that enable MKO to fulfill the mandate and responsibility to its member communities.

 

Education and Experience

Knowledge of safety, wellness and justice issues relating to First Nation communities.

Knowledge and understanding of First Nation protocols and customs.

Experience living or working in First Nation and/or Northern Communities.

Experience in community service planning, delivery, and coordination.

Experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and/or environment.

Experience in project development, coordination, operationalization, and evaluation.

Experience in monitoring and tracking project activities, outcomes, and reporting.

Experience in data collection and analysis.

Post-secondary education or related experience in Justice, Indigenous Studies, First Nation Governance or related field is an asset.

Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Resourcefulness, adaptability and problem solving skills.

Interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.

Valid Class 5 drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.

The ability to speak one of the northern First Nations languages is an asset.

Must be able to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and a satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check upon hiring.

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience
