Summary:
The Recycling and Waste Disposal Technician manages the recycling operations, supports regulatory compliance, and collaborates across departments and vendors. This role refines recycling processes, coordinates hazardous and non-hazardous pickups, and helps expand the sustainability program to other sites.
Essential Functions:
Manage daily waste and recycling operations across departments.
Operate and maintain equipment including balers, crushers, and forklifts.
Schedule pickups with contractors and provide necessary SDS documentation.
Develop and maintain SOPs and work instructions.
Train staff in proper disposal and recycling procedures.
Track supply inventory and place orders.
Participate in sustainability initiatives and cross-site program expansion.
Administer the facility’s red tag and waste compliance program.
Network with sustainability organizations to enhance internal practices.
Provide support to custodians and automation technicians as needed to ensure efficient completion of tasks and continuity of operations.
Skills & Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of recycling protocols and environmental practices.
Excellent verbal/written communication and coordination skills.
Proficiency with documentation, SOPs, and compliance-related forms.
Capable of operating heavy equipment and providing training to others.
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and work in varying indoor/outdoor conditions.
Familiarity with hazardous waste disposal practices and vendor coordination.
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
0-2 years of experience in recycling, waste disposal, or custodial work.
A combination of education and experience may meet this requirement.
Preferred Education and Experience:
3+ years of experience in waste or recycling programs.
Experience creating SOPs and coordinating multi-site waste operations.
Forklift certification and experience with balers/crushers.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as a laptop, desktop, smartphone, and photocopiers. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Essential oils are worn and/or diffused in the work environment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This position requires the incumbent to be physically present at the assigned worksite. The regular schedule is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an hour lunch, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Employees are also expected to work at least one non-convention farm event a year and to work at the annual company convention.
Exact hour requirements can be reasonably modified as necessary for the business needs by the employee’s manager.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to type, file, and occasionally lift office supplies up to 20 pounds. The employee must be physically able to tolerate the scent of essential oils worn or diffused.
