RESONSIBLE TO: Supervisor

LOCATION: Cookstown

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week 

COMPENSATION: $20.41 per hour

INTRODUCTION:

New Path Youth and Family Services is an accredited children’s mental health agency providing a range of compassionate, innovative and accessible services for children, youth and their families throughout Simcoe County. New Path respectfully acknowledges we are situated on the traditional land of the Anishnaabeg people which include the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Pottawatomi Nations collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy.

PURPOSE OF POSTION:

Engage youth (ages 12-17) in the Live-in Treatment Program to develop, plan and implement a variety of recreational activities that promote well-being and life skill development.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate with youth to assess needs and goals related to recreational activities.

Plan, organize, promote and facilitate a wide range of inclusive recreational programs.

Seek regular feedback from youth to continuously improve programs.

Collect, evaluate and provide data for reports.

Assist client(s) in making referrals to community resources as needed. 

Attend recreation meetings and coordinate with staff to maximize participation in programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Post-Secondary Education in Child & Youth Worker, Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology or Social Work program; completed or in process.

Experience working with youth in a recreational setting.

Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at start of employment and be able to work in Canada. Must meet other Canada Summer Jobs requirements.

Lifeguard Certification or First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.

Demonstrates strong engagement skills using a strengths-based approach and partners with client/family in treatment planning, goal setting and anticipated outcomes.

Recognizes, initiates and adapts to changing conditions and situations in the workplace.

Demonstrates awareness for the backgrounds, values, beliefs and traditions of staff, clients, families and communities we serve.

Continuously assesses and challenges assumptions, personal unconcious bias and commits to understanding diverse perspectives, experiences and their intersectionality.

Commits to ongoing training to build the knowledge, awareness and skills, that contribute to creating a culturally safe environment for staff, clients and families.

Competency and effective use of database and Microsoft Office systems.

Confident, articulate and professional when communicating verbally and in writing.

French language is an asset.
