Position Description
The Rebar Installer installs reinforcing steel for J. Benton Construction’s self-perform concrete operations. This skilled trades role supports structural concrete work by placing, tying, and securing reinforcing steel in accordance with drawings, shop details, and safety requirements.
Working under the direction of the Rebar Foreman and field supervision, this position contributes directly to safe, accurate, and productive concrete placement across active projects.
This position is based in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Key Responsibilities
Place, tie, and secure reinforcing steel for footings, walls, slabs, columns, and structural elements.
Follow direction from structural drawings, rebar shop drawings, and bend schedules.
Maintain proper bar spacing, lap lengths, clear cover, and alignment.
Assist with layout marks, elevation checks, and embed coordination as directed.
Prepare reinforcing steel for inspection and concrete placement.
Handle, stage, and organize rebar materials safely and efficiently.
Work safely around formwork, equipment, and active concrete operations.
Maintain tools, tying equipment, and work areas in good condition.
Follow company safety rules and OSHA requirements at all times.
Essential Skills & Competencies
Working knowledge of reinforcing steel placement and tying methods.
Ability to read basic construction or rebar shop drawings.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
Physical stamina for demanding outdoor construction work.
Ability to work as part of a crew and follow foreman direction.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of one year of experience working on reinforcing steel installation experience in structural concrete.
Basic understanding of construction safety practices.
Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays or variable shifts as needed to meet project deadlines.
Preferred Experience (includes, but is not limited to):
Experience working on commercial or structural concrete projects.
Familiarity with rebar shop drawings or bend schedules.
Experience working with self-perform concrete crews.
Rigging and crane hand experience.

Ability to work outdoors in varying Caribbean weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and sun exposure
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods
Ability to navigate active construction sites with changing ground conditions and elevations
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Ability to safely use ladders, scaffolding, and other access equipment as required
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
