Position Description
The Rebar Foreman leads field installation of reinforcing steel for J. Benton Construction’s self-perform concrete operations. This trades-level leadership role is responsible for directing rod-busting crews, coordinating daily work with field supervision, and ensuring reinforcing steel is installed safely, accurately, and in alignment with project drawings and schedule requirements.
Working closely with Self Perform Management, Superintendents, and self-perform concrete crews, this position plays a critical role in successful structural concrete execution across active projects.
This position is based in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and direct rod-busting crews in daily reinforcing steel installation.
Read and interpret structural drawings, rebar shop drawings, bend schedules, and placement details.
Plan crew activities to meet pour schedules and project sequencing.
Verify bar size, spacing, lap lengths, clear cover, and embed locations prior to concrete placement.
Coordinate closely with formwork, embeds, PT, and concrete placement crews.
Maintain productivity, quality, and safety of reinforcing operations.
Identify conflicts or missing information and communicate with field leadership for resolution.
Track installed quantities and support daily reporting of manpower and production.
Ensure tools, tying equipment, and materials are organized and jobsite ready.
Enforce company safety standards and OSHA requirements.
Essential Skills & Competencies
Strong working knowledge of reinforcing steel installation methods.
Proven ability to lead small to mid-size field crews.
Ability to read structural and shop drawings accurately.
High attention to detail, layout, spacing, and tolerances.
Reliable planning, pacing, and productivity management.
Clear communication with Superintendents and concrete teams.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience working on reinforcing steel installation experience in structural concrete.
Prior foreman or lead rod buster experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage crew productivity and quality.
Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays or variable shifts as needed to meet project deadlines.
Preferred Experience (includes, but is not limited to):
Experience on vertical construction, mass concrete, and/or large structural concrete scopes.
Experience working with self-perform concrete contractors or general contractors.
Ability to assist with basic layout or elevation verification.
OSHA 10 certification.

Ability to work outdoors in varying Caribbean weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and sun exposure
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods
Ability to navigate active construction sites with changing ground conditions and elevations
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Ability to safely use ladders, scaffolding, and other access equipment as required
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
