We are seeking a Rates and Freight Audit Clerk to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for auditing and verifying freight rates and charges to ensure accuracy and compliance with established policies and procedures.

Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1-3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.
Core Responsibilities:
Audit Ace: You’ll audit both US and Canadian freight bills like a pro, ensuring everything is accurately rated and accounted for.
Invoice Investigator: Manually rate invoices for special accounts, ensuring we’re charging just the right amount according to agreements.
Collaborate with Pricing Analysts to nail down special cost rates and liaise with terminals and departments to get the correct cube/scale information.
Reach out to Interlines/Agents to confirm charges and avoid any surprises.
Assist the quoting department with overflow tasks, ensuring customers get the best deals.
Keep things organized and accurate by managing spreadsheets, reports, and queues with precision.
Help streamline operations and make sure we’re always following the right policies and procedures.
What We Need:
You’ve got an eagle eye for detail; if something’s off, you’ll spot it in a second.
You’re a communication whiz, both on the phone and in writing, no question goes unanswered, and no issue gets swept under the rug.
Excel and Word? You’re a wizard with those tools, turning numbers and data into neat, digestible reports.
You’re a natural at multitasking and staying organized, with a knack for managing multiple queues without breaking a sweat.
When the going gets tough, you get creative, finding solutions to tricky problems is what you do best.
You’ve got a strong sense of customer service, you make sure every interaction is professional, helpful, and friendly.
You’re cool under pressure and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
What You Have:
A solid background in auditing, freight management, or something similar, with a keen eye for accuracy and efficiency.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; your spreadsheets are clean, organized, and ready to roll at any moment.
At least 2-3 years of experience working in an office environment where you’ve learned how to juggle numbers, details, and deadlines.
Bonus Points for:
Experience with freight auditing or billing
Familiarity with US and Canadian shipping regulations
