Job Description
1. Assist with scheduling new patients and follow-up visits as needed. Assist with collection of necessary patient information and medical records before radiation oncologist sees the patient.
2. Maintain patient charts as needed. Provide copies of charts and any other pertinent information required by the referring physician.
3. Perform chart reviews after completion of treatments as requested by department leader.
4. Provide comfort and support to patients and families to help reduce anxieties.
5. Performs venipuncture (phlebotomy) to collect lab specimens, processes orders including verifying a valid diagnosis is documented, and transports specimens to laboratory.
6. Address billing and insurance questions and concerns. Refer to business office as needed. Assist in pre-authorization process, including checking insurance eligibility via eligibility system or software.
7. Perform clerical duties of filing, typing, and phone answering. Scan orders and documents as necessary.
8. Perform inventory and ordering of office supplies.
9. Assists providers who practice in our facility with rooming patients, processing lab orders and collecting lab specimens as requested.
10. Performs data entry into electronic records such as ARIA
11. Registers patients in electronic medical records system (Meditech)
12. Checks in patients for radiation treatments. Transports patients to and from exam rooms and treatment rooms as requested.
13. Assist radiation therapist or radiation oncologist with positioning of patients for treatment.
14. Assist with imaging procedures under the direction of radiation therapist.
15. Prepares supplies, immobilization devices and equipment for procedures and treatments.
16. Maintains treatment rooms to ensure cleanliness, organization and adequate stocking of supplies.
17. Assist in Quality Assurance and performance improvement actives such as chart audits and reviews.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated keyboard skill 35 words per minute, filing, telephone, and organizational skills. Knowledge of billing procedures and insurance coverage and payment. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff.
Education:
High School or GED.
Experience:
Reception and or secretarial experience required with Hospital, Radiology, or Radiation Therapy experience desirable.
Certification/Licensure:
Certified as a phlebotomist preferred.
Work is predominately during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, however some variation may occur depending on workload and staffing. Emergency on-call status does not apply to this position.
