Job Summary:
The Quarry Weigh Scale Clerk- Floater is responsible for overseeing the accurate weighing of trucks and materials entering and leaving the quarry site. This role involves operating scale equipment, managing weight ticket documentation, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational procedures. The Weigh Scale Coordinator serves as a key point of contact for drivers and site personnel, providing excellent customer service and facilitating efficient material flow. Attention to detail, professional communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment without a back-up are essential for success in this position.
As a Floater, this position does not have a permanently assigned location and must be available to travel to any quarry site based on operational needs. Reliable personal transportation is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Weighing Operations
Operate and maintain scale equipment to accurately weigh incoming and outgoing trucks.
Issue and verify weight tickets, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
Monitor scale system functionality and report discrepancies promptly.
Floater Expectations
Travel to and support any quarry location as assigned.
Adapt quickly to different site operations, teams, and workflows.
Provide coverage for absences, vacations, peak production periods, or operational needs.
Maintain consistent performance standards across all locations.
Customer Service
Greet drivers and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
Provide clear instructions regarding weigh procedures and site expectations.
Address driver inquiries or concerns professionally and efficiently.
Collaborate with site management to resolve operational challenges.
Data & Reporting
Accurately enter weight, material, and transaction data into company systems.
Maintain organized documentation and filing systems.
Generate required daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure adherence to company policies and all applicable safety regulations.
Monitor site traffic to promote safe and efficient vehicle flow.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the scale house and surrounding areas.
Communication
Coordinate with quarry personnel regarding dispatch and delivery schedules.
Communicate discrepancies, delays, or operational issues to management.
Manage high-volume incoming calls professionally and efficiently.
Maintain composure and professionalism in high-pressure situations
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior scale house, logistics, administrative, or customer service experience preferred.
Strong attention to detail with high accuracy in data entry.
Proficient in computer systems; familiarity with scale software is a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Must have reliable personal transportation.
Must be available to travel to any quarry location as scheduled.
Flexible availability, including potential weekend hours as operationally required.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting for long periods: Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive hand movements.
Walking: Ability to walk to and from facilities and within office on slippery and uneven walking surfaces.
Swift movements: Ability to take swift breaks to monitor truck weigh-ins without interruption or an untimely delay without an office back-up.
Lifting, reaching and bending: Regularly lift, reach, bend, or move up to 10 pounds, accessing files, reaching for paperwork, and cleaning slippery, muddy, rocky, and/or dirty flooring.
Climbing: Ability to perform repetitive climbing throughout the day, maintaining balance and moving around elevated areas, to include 4 steps.
Vision: Ability to clearly see vehicle license plates and monitor computer screens.
Weather conditions: May be exposed to various weather elements while performing duties.
