Quarry, Crushing and Maintenance Foreman (Night Shift)

The Quarry Night Shift Crushing & Maintenance Foreman is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising crushing plant operations and mechanical maintenance activities during the night shift. This position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient production while maintaining full compliance with MSHA regulations and company safety standards.

This is a
working foreman position that requires strong mechanical expertise, sound decision-making, and the ability to lead crews with minimal supervision during off-shift hours.

Reports to: Quarry Superintendent/ Plant Manager

Shift: Night Shift (10–12 hour shifts; overtime and weekends are required)

Safety & Compliance

Enforce all MSHA regulations and company safety policies.

Conduct required workplace examinations and document findings.

Ensure lockout/tagout procedures are followed at all times.

Lead safety meetings and toolbox talks.

Investigate incidents, near misses, and equipment damage.

Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.

Crushing Operations

Supervise primary, secondary, and tertiary crushing circuits.

Monitor plant performance, throughput, and product gradation.

Adjust plant settings to meet quality and production targets.

Coordinate loadout operations as needed.

Communicate production or operational issues to management and day-shift leadership.

Maintenance Oversight

Supervise maintenance personnel and contractors during the shift.

Diagnose and troubleshoot crushers, screens, conveyors, motors, hydraulics, and bearings.

Schedule and prioritize repairs to minimize downtime.

Oversee preventative maintenance activities.

Communicate parts usage and inventory needs.

Leadership & Administration

Direct, coach, and develop equipment operators and maintenance technicians.

Complete shift reports, including production, downtime, safety, and inspections.

Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the plant.

Ensure effective shift handoff to the day crew.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Minimum 5 years of aggregate crushing plant experience.

2+ years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Working knowledge of crushers, screens, conveyors, and basic electrical systems.

Thorough understanding of MSHA regulations.

Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.

Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing.

Able to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and overtime as required.

Physical Requirements:

Work Environment: Able to work primarily outdoors, including occasional night work, with exposure to uneven terrain, dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and rain.

Proximity Hazards: Must be alert and able to work safely near heavy mobile equipment.

Climbing: Must have the physical capability to safely climb on and off of mobile equipment that is greater than 10 feet off the ground on uneven terrain multiple times daily. Must also be able to climb stairs and ladders at heights up to 100 feet.

Balance: Including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying.

Vision: 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions.

Hearing: Corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions.

Awkward positions: Getting to and from both sitting and kneeling on the ground.

Heavy lifting: Awkward parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders, and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
