Position Title: Quality Test Technician
Location: Onsite, Morrisville, NC
Contract (up to 9 weeks)
Overview
We are seeking an on-site Quality Test Technician (Verification & Validation Test Executor) to perform formal testing for a new medical device system. The system consists of a wearable sensor that captures bio signal metrics and transmits them via Bluetooth (BLE) to an Android tablet (Human Interface Device/HID) for monitoring and logging.
While your primary focus will be executing pre-written test protocols, you will also be expected to help refine existing protocols and possibly create new test cases if needed. You will receive training on our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support the execution of these test protocols.
This position reports to the Director of Quality and is assigned to work directly with the Verification & Validation (V&V) team.
Key Responsibilities
Protocol Execution: Execute formal test protocols exactly as written (step-by-step) for software and integrated device workflows.
Protocol Maintenance: Assist in updating existing test protocols for clarity and accuracy, and draft new test steps or protocols as needed to cover edge cases or new features.
Documentation & Evidence: Record test results with strong attention to detail, including:
Pass/fail outcomes.
Objective evidence (screenshots, logs, exported files, device traces, version identifiers).
Deviations, anomalies, and retest outcomes.
Compliance: Maintain accurate test records compliant with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) to ensure records are clear, dated, attributable, and traceable.
Environment Setup: Set up and operate test environments as trained, including tablets/devices, accessories, test accounts, test data sets, and network settings.
Artifact Management: Capture and organize supporting artifacts such as photos of setups, test run notes, error reports, and bug reproduction steps.
Communication: Communicate issues clearly to Engineering and QA teams, providing reproducible steps and supporting evidence.
Safety & Process: Follow lab/onsite safety, device handling, and data handling rules.
Status Reporting: Participate in daily/weekly test status updates regarding progress, blockers, and retest needs.
Required Qualifications
Testing Experience: Experience executing structured test procedures (software, hardware-software integration, or regulated environments preferred).
Test Case Authoring: Ability to write, edit, and format clear, concise, and logical test steps for others to follow.
Documentation: Strong documentation habits and comfort producing clean, auditable test records.
Attention to Detail: Ability to follow detailed instructions precisely and consistently.
Technical Comfort: Comfort working hands-on with devices (mobile/tablet apps, peripherals, BLE/Wi-Fi setups).
Troubleshooting: Basic troubleshooting skills to identify whether a failure is procedural, environmental, or product-related.
Communication: Good communication skills—especially writing clear defect descriptions and test notes.
Availability: Immediate availability for onsite work for a duration of 2–3 months.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
Experience with medical devices, regulated products, or formal V&V testing.
Familiarity with defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira) and test record templates (google docs and sheets).
Ability to capture and interpret logs (Android logs/logcat, BLE logs, basic networking checks).
Understanding of QA concepts like test protocols, objective evidence, traceability, deviations, and retesting.
Work Environment / Logistics
On-site Role: Must be present in the lab/office environment in RTP (Morrisville, NC).
Contract Duration: Several months (exact dates based on test schedule).
Hours: Typically standard business hours (flexible 8-hour days). Occasional flexibility may be needed during critical test cycles.
Deliverables / Success Criteria
Execution: Test protocols executed as scheduled with complete and accurate records.
Protocol Quality: Updates and new test cases are written clearly and require minimal revision.
Evidence: Clear objective evidence captured for every test run.
Defect Reporting: Issues documented in a way that enables fast reproduction and resolution.
Compliance: Organized test artifacts suitable for inclusion in a regulated documentation set.
