Quality Engineering & Systems Consultant
Location: Ideally based in North or South Carolina (remote with periodic travel)
Engagement Type: Contract / Consulting (Part-time or Project-based)
Engagement Duration: 3-6 months
About the Role:
Pioneer Square Brands (PSB) designs and delivers premium technology accessories and hardware solutions under the Brenthaven, Gumdrop, and VAULT brands. Our products are used globally across enterprise, education, and commercial environments.
As we scale, we are committed to building a proactive, design-driven quality capability, ensuring quality is engineered into our products from the earliest stages of development—not inspected in after the fact.
We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineering & Systems Consultant to help us assess, design, and implement scalable quality practices while mentoring our team to own and sustain these capabilities.
This role is not about auditing or policing quality. It is about building systems, capability, and culture.
Objective of Engagement: The Consultant will work alongside PSB leadership, Product Development & Engineering teams to:
1. Assess Current State
Evaluate current product development and quality practices
Identify gaps, risks, and priority opportunities
Assess supplier and manufacturing quality integration
Provide clear, practical recommendations
2. Design and Implement Scalable Quality Systems
Help PSB establish appropriate processes such as:
Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
Design Reviews and decision checkpoints
Verification and Validation planning
Reliability and durability testing frameworks
Root cause analysis processes
Quality documentation and control practices
Focus will be on building fit-for-purpose systems.
3. Mentor and Develop Internal Capability
Coach Product, Engineering, and Operations leaders
Transfer knowledge and capability to internal teams
Enable PSB Team Members to fully own and sustain quality systems
Help build a proactive quality culture
Ideal Background and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience
15+ years in Quality Engineering or Quality Leadership roles
Experience in consumer electronics, hardware, or accessories
Experience working with contract manufacturers and global supply chains
Demonstrated success building or transforming quality systems
Strong background in small businesses or startups (required)
Ability to translate best practices into simple, usable processes
Technical Expertise
Strong working knowledge of:
DFMEA / PFMEA
Product Development Quality integration
Validation and Verification
Reliability engineering
Root cause analysis (8D, Fishbone, etc.)
Supplier quality management
Engineering Change Order
Document Control
Experience with Apple ecosystem suppliers or similar environments is a strong plus.
