About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Christchurch laboratory is currently offering an exciting opportunity for a Quality Coordinator & Laboratory Technician to join our team. With the role split between Quality Coordinator responsibilities two days a week and a Laboratory Technician role in the Microbiology Department for three days per week. This is a permanent, full-time position of 75 hours per fortnight.
This dual-role position combines hands-on microbiology laboratory work with responsibility for supporting and coordinating the laboratory Quality Management System at Awanui Veterinary Christchurch.
Key Responsibilities:
Performing routine microbiology testing and supporting daily laboratory operations
Assisting in the maintenance, development and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System
Ensuring compliance with ISO 17025, GLP and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards
Coordinating internal & external audits, QC monitoring, incident management and corrective actions.
Maintaining quality documentation and supporting management reviews and reporting
Supporting evaluation, calibration and implementation of new methods, reagents and instrumentation
Working collaboratively with laboratory managers, quality staff and technical teams to meet quality and turnaround time requirements
Promoting a culture of quality, safety, confidentiality and continuous improvement across the laboratory

To be successful in this role you need to have:
A science or laboratory-related tertiary qualification, preferably with microbiology experience, and an understanding of quality systems within a laboratory environment.
Demonstrated ability to interpret, evaluate, and respond to information, including quality documentation, procedures, and audit findings, in a positive and constructive manner
Highly motivated and driven with a professional attitude.
Ability to work well under pressure while remaining safety and quality conscious.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work and meet turnaround times.
A continuous improvement mindset and strong attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent computer skills
Flexibility to work additional hours when required
