ROLE OVERVIEW
The Purchasing Associate provides foundational support for the procurement of laboratory supplies and equipment across our new site in Toronto, Canada. This entry-level role is designed for individuals at the early stages of their career who are looking to build experience in procurement, operations, and vendor coordination within a life sciences environment.
Working closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and Finance, the role ensures timely ordering, accurate record-keeping, and adherence to internal policies and compliance standards.
RESPONSIBILTIES
Support daily purchasing activities, including placing orders, tracking shipments, and coordinating with vendors
Assist in resolving delivery issues, discrepancies, and returns in a timely manner
Review purchase requests to ensure alignment with approved supply and chemical lists
Maintain accurate vendor records and support onboarding of new suppliers in accordance with company processes
Ensure proper documentation and filing of purchasing records to support audit and compliance requirements
Collaborate with Finance to support purchase order creation, invoice processing, and reconciliation
Provide responsive and professional support to internal teams and resident companies
Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies
Participate in training to build knowledge of procurement systems, tools, and best practices
Support additional administrative or operational tasks as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Life Sciences, or a related field preferred
0–2 years of relevant experience (co-op, internship, or entry-level role in procurement, operations, or administration)
Strong interest in procurement, supply chain, or laboratory operations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); exposure to procurement or ERP systems is an asset (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks)
Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
Effective communication skills and a customer service-oriented approach
Proactive, reliable, and eager to learn within a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently with guidance and manage multiple priorities
