Establish and execute high-impact policy events strategy to advance Anthropic's mission.

Job Description

About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a new member of our Central Policy team to build and execute our policy events strategy. As our first full-time policy events hire, you'll establish Anthropic's presence through high-impact strategic programs that advance our mission of ensuring safe and beneficial AI development.

This role requires someone who can create world-class experiences, build scalable event programs from the ground up, “playbook” events to support efficient and consistent execution of policy events by regional teams, and drive measurable policy impact across diverse markets. You'll own the full spectrum of strategic events including Anthropic-hosted events, as well as third-party event activations. You'll work closely with policy leadership, the global events team, and cross-functional partners to ensure events directly support our policy goals. Ideal candidates will have both extensive event management experience, and demonstrable experience working with policy stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Develop and execute comprehensive policy events across Anthropic’s priority regions

Plan, manage, and execute a portfolio of strategic events including Anthropic-hosted, independently driven tentpole large events; policy roundtables and receptions; and Anthropic’s presence at partner programs and conferences

Build scalable frameworks and processes for event programs from scratch

Manage regional resources, including building relationships with key partners, vendors, and industry organizations, and partner closely with Central Policy leadership to align on priorities

Measure and report on program effectiveness including stakeholder engagement, relationship advancement, and ROI

Collaborate with global Events team to ensure regional programs align with company-wide strategy while meeting local market needs

Coordinate with cross-functional partners to ensure consistent messaging and positioning in all regional programs

Drive continuous improvement through post-event analysis and stakeholder feedback

Manage and oversee the calendar of all of Anthropic’s policy events

You may be a good fit if you:

Have 10+ years of events experience with deep expertise in policy event management, ideally both in major U.S. cities and in smaller markets

Bring hands-on experience leading event strategy and execution in-house for an organization with high execution standards. Startup experience is strongly preferred

Are a proven self-starter who can build and run sophisticated programs in fast-paced startup environments, with the ability to thrive as the first dedicated policy events hire

Have experience evaluating and activating at premium third-party events strategically, including at high-end venues and cultural experiences

Have strong project management skills with experience managing complex, multi-region programs simultaneously

Possess exceptional budgeting and financial management capabilities with experience managing substantial event budgets

Demonstrate cultural awareness and ability to adapt strategies for diverse policy audiences

Excel at cross-functional collaboration, particularly with communications and policy teams

Are comfortable with ambiguity and thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments

Have strong analytical skills and data-driven approach to program optimization.

Strong candidates may also have:

Experience educating policy audiences about AI/ML or other complex technical topics

Understanding of U.S. regulatory and compliance requirements for policy events and activities

Experience working in high-growth technology companies

Travel Requirements:

This role requires approximately 25% travel for out-of-town events, with additional travel to Anthropic offices for alignment and planning sessions.

The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.

For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

Annual Salary:
$295,000—$295,000 USD

Logistics

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
