SETTING
First Step is a renowned not-for-profit addiction, mental health, and legal services hub in the heart

of St Kilda. We provide services to thousands of vulnerable Victorians every year, with the firm

belief that everybody deserves every chance to turn their lives around. First Step provides a

uniquely multi-disciplinary team of General Practitioners, Registered Nurses, therapists, lawyers and

care coordinators all of whom have decades of experience in addiction, mental health and legal

services.

Our model of care is designed to address the systemic barriers faced by people with co-occurring

illnesses including mental ill-health and prioritises welcome, empathy and hope. Through the

compassionate application of multiple disciplines in a team environment we focus on incremental,

whole-of-life improvements that build towards physical and mental health and wellbeing. We work

to help people be connected to their families, participating in society, and taking control of their

own lives.

TEAM COLLABORATION

You will find yourself working alongside a team of with decades of experience in supporting

vulnerable Victorians. Our team specialises in the primary care of people who experience mental ill-

health and substance dependence. Your work will be integrated into a constantly collaborating

team including:

GPs
Mental health nursing
Care Coordination
Group psychoeducation and recovery programs
An accredited community legal centre

LOW THRESHOLD, SUB-ACUTE PRIMARY CARE

We work hard to remove barriers to care by bulk-billing all patients. We offer in person and telehealth

appointments.

PROFESSIONALISM and REPUTATION

First Step is an AGPAL accredited practice and has a reputation for providing best practice

collaborative and integrated care to vulnerable Victorians.

WHAT WE OFFER

As a not-for-profit organisation we can offer salary packaging. But, uniquely to First Step your

wage can be a factor of your billing. Alternatively, you can work as an independent contractor.

We will support your practice with a flexible and autonomous working day with considerable

administrative and reception support, as well as the support of our integrated team.

ABOUT YOU

Psychologists working at First Step need to have a post-graduate tertiary qualification in

psychology, full un-restricted registration with AHPRA and a Medicare provider number. You

will be skilled and passionate about supporting vulnerable Victorians with complex needs and

working in collaboration with our multidisciplinary team.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

As an accredited practice we require you to have a valid Working with Children Check and Police

records check. You also need to have rights to work in Australia.
