Position Summary: 

Reporting to Clinic Director McGill Psychoeducational & Counselling Clinic, the incumbent provides direct mental health support to clients of the McGill Psychoeducational and Counselling Clinic, contributing to the mission of fostering mental health awareness, prevention, early intervention, and accessible care. The incumbent delivers evidence-informed assessment, counselling and psychotherapy tailored to the diverse needs of a variety of clients, ensuring timely and effective support. In addition to psychoeducational assessment and individual counselling, the role may involve supervision of training psychologists, assisting the Clinic Director and Director of Clinical Training in ensuring that the field placements and internship of students are consistent with OPQ/CPA standards, and the provision of workshops/information sessions, and outreach initiatives that promote the McGill Psychoeducational & Counselling Clinic across the campus and local community. The Psychologist assists the Clinic Director in collaborating other campus-based clinics with the goal of achieving increased coordination of services.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducts (psychological/emotional) assessments and collaboratively creates intervention/wellness plans with Clinic clients. Completes reports and consultation paperwork consistent with OPQ/CPA standards. Provides follow-up appointments and makes referrals within McGill and the larger community, as appropriate.

• Carry a clinical caseload from the Clinic waiting list; maintain timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).

• Provides individual therapy or counselling within a collaborative care framework for clients experiencing mild-moderate psychological distress. Works from a short-term, collaborative, evidence-informed model emphasizing client agency and resilience.

• Administer and interpret standardized psychological assessments with children and adolescents; produce integrated reports; deliver feedback to clients/families.

• Provide developmentally attuned supervision to graduate trainees; contribute to case conferences and trainee evaluations.

• Participates in planning and conducting workshops, and outreach activities in areas appropriate to the Clinic’s mandate and intermediate- and long-term goals and participated in establishing and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to ensure coordinated programming and referral pathways.

• Provides expertise to the Clinic Director in developing and implementing a research protocol for obtaining feedback from clients about their satisfaction with Clinic intervention services, as well as their response to key elements of the brief intervention model being provided.

• Participates with the Clinic Director and Director of Clinical Training in ensuring that the field placements and internship sites of students are providing training consistent with OPQ/CPA standards and that clinical hours of students are being monitored and recorded accurately.  

• Responsible for ensuring that practice is up to date and informed by current research.

• Participates in training opportunities and incorporates current Clinic practices into daily routine.

• Works on special projects, as assigned.

Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities:

• Doctorate in Psychology (PhD/PsyD).

• Registered/licensed psychologist in good standing (minimum two years licensed).

• Demonstrated experience in standardized assessment with children/teens and in psychotherapy (psychodynamic/relational preferred).

• Experience supervising psychology trainees (or strong potential).

• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; adaptability and practical problem‑solving strengths.

• Commitment to ethical, client‑centered, and culturally responsive care.

• Experience in university training clinics or academic health settings.

• Familiarity with EHR systems and quality assurance processes.

• Bilingualism (English/French) and experience with diverse populations.

• Experience in community partnership development and interprofessional collaboration.
