Core Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Evaluation & Diagnosis
Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments to diagnose mental health conditions (e.g., depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder).
Review patient history and medical records to plan effective care.
Treatment Planning
Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
Adjust treatment plans over time based on patient progress or new information.
Medication Management
Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications, adjusting doses and combinations as needed.
Ensure safe pharmacotherapy in line with best practices.
Therapy & Support
Provide psychotherapy/counseling when indicated (varies by practice).
Educate patients and families about mental health conditions and treatment strategies.
Collaboration
Consult and coordinate with interdisciplinary care teams including psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other health professionals.
Participate in case reviews and treatment team meetings as appropriate.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate and confidential patient records according to HIPAA and facility policy.
Stay compliant with medical licensing and legal requirements relevant to Indiana or Kentucky practice.
Crisis & Follow-Up
Provide follow-up appointments to monitor ongoing care and adjust treatments.
In some settings (e.g., hospital, VA, emergency care), handle crisis or acute psychiatric situations.
Qualifications
Medical degree (MD or DO).
Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry.
Active medical license in Indiana (Jeffersonville jobs) AND Kentucky (Louisville jobs).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient-focused care.
