NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.
DOF’s Property Valuation and Tax Mapping is responsible for valuing more than one million properties in the city and overseeing assessments and valuations in a fair and equitable manner. The valuations enable the efficient and effective collection of property tax revenues for New York City.
The Property Modeling & Research (PMR) Unit is in the process of redesigning their internal workflows and moving their processes into open-source software that is reproducible and version controlled. PMR is seeking a highly motivated and organized Property Modeling Grad Intern who will report to the Senior Director. Duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Building/publishing vignettes demonstrating how custom R packages can be used.
- Moving new and existing helper functions into a customer R package.
- Building a tool for assessors to identify comparable properties, creating production level dash applications, hosted on internal servers (built with active support/guidance from the Property unit).
- Clean, transform, and analyze large datasets using Python, R and/or SQL
- Contribute to the development of internal R or python packages (e.g., shared functions, metrics, validation tools)
- Help design and maintain dashboards or custom internal applications for monitoring team performance and outputs, via Microsoft PowerBI and/or custom Dash apps
- Build reproducible analytical workflows with clear documentation and version control
