Job Description
At Horace Mann, we are committed to delivering exceptional service to educators and their families when they need it most. We are seeking a skilled and customer-focused Property Claims Adjuster II to investigate, evaluate, and resolve property claims with accuracy, empathy, and professionalism.
This role is ideal for an adjuster who thrives in handling complex dwelling losses, enjoys problem-solving, and is passionate about delivering an outstanding customer experience throughout the claims process. This role is fully remote, and the training class is scheduled for May 18, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Claims Investigation & Evaluation
• Investigate complex claims involving fire, water, catastrophe, and other dwelling losses.
• Evaluate claims involving dwelling, unscheduled personal property, and theft events.
• Verify coverage, determine liability, and assess scope of damages.
• Investigate fire and theft cases, partnering closely with the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) when applicable.
• Apply knowledge of repair methods and industry products to evaluate damages accurately.
Estimating & Technical Expertise
• Develop detailed damage estimates using Xactimate, including sketching and multiple pricing updates based on industry standards (Level 2 certification required).
• Reconcile contractor and vendor estimates to ensure accurate claim valuation.
• Work with vendors and contractors to support damage assessment and resolution.
Negotiation & Resolution
• Evaluate claims to determine appropriate value and negotiate settlements in accordance with company best practices.
• Handle claims involving Public Adjusters and attorney representation with appropriate oversight.
• Identify and pursue subrogation and salvage opportunities where applicable.
Customer Experience & Communication
• Provide transparent, timely communication to all parties involved, including policyholders, agents, vendors, and legal representatives.
• Delivering an extraordinary customer experience, reflected in strong claims satisfaction results.
Collaboration & Mentorship
• Act as a mentor within the unit, supporting knowledge sharing and team development.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure efficient and compliant claims handling.
Qualifications & Experience
• H.S diploma or GED Required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 2+ years of property claims experience required.
• Experience handling complex dwelling losses preferred.
• Strong knowledge of homeowner policies, claims practices, and industry standards.
• Proven ability to handle fire, theft, and catastrophe-related claims.
• Experience working with Public Adjusters and attorney-represented claims preferred.
• Proficiency in Xactimate with Level 2 certification (or equivalent experience).
• Strong understanding of state regulations and compliance requirements.
• Ability to manage multiple claims in a fast-paced environment.
• Maintain required state adjuster licenses.

Pay Range:
• $57,500 - $79,100.00 annually.
Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
Work location is flexible if approved by the Company except that the position may not be performed remotely from NYC
